چکیده

In 3-axis NC (Numerical Control) machining, various cutters are used and the offset compensation for these cutters is important for a gouge free tool path generation. This paper introduces triangular mesh offset method for a generalized cutter defined based on the APT (Automatically Programmed Tools) definition or parametric curve. An offset vector is computed according to the geometry of a cutter and the normal vector of a part surface. A triangular mesh is offset to the CL (Cutter Location) surface by multiple normal vectors of a vertex and the offset vector computation method. A tool path for a generalized cutter is generated on the CL surface, and the machining test shows that the proposed offset method is useful for the NC machining. q 2004 Elsevier Ltd. Contour-parallel tool path generation for three-axis mesh surface machining based on one-step inverse forming

Recently, mesh surfaces have become the focus of considerable interest due to its simplicity for data exchange and geometric computation. However, for mesh surface machining, there are few tool path planning strategies but iso-planar method. In this article, a contour-parallel tool path method is presented for machining complicated mesh surfaces with holes or islands by introducing a so-called ...

Incomplete mesh offset for NC machining

In this paper, the incomplete triangular mesh including reversed faces and gaps between boundary edges is directly offset for NC machining. or three-axis machining, vertical faces are deleted and the face normal vectors directing the lower part of model are changed to upward. The omplete mesh is offset by the multiple normal vectors of a vertex, and boundary edges and boundary vertices are offs...

Self-intersection Removal in Triangular Mesh Offsetting

Proposed in this paper is an efficient algorithm to remove self-intersections from the raw offset triangular mesh. The resulting regular mesh can be used in shape inflation, tool path generation, and process planning to name a few. Objective is to find the valid region set of triangles defining the outer boundary of the offset volume from the raw offset triangular mesh. Starting with a seed tri...

Joint and Generalized Spectral Radius of Upper Triangular Matrices with Entries in a Unital Banach Algebra

In this paper, we discuss some properties of joint spectral {radius(jsr)} and  generalized spectral radius(gsr)  for a finite set of upper triangular matrices with entries in a Banach algebra and represent relation between geometric and joint/generalized spectral radius. Some of these are in scalar matrices, but  some are different. For example for a bounded set of scalar matrices,$Sigma$, $r_*...

Machining Free-Form Surfaces

This paper presents an analytical method for planning an efficient tool-path in machining free-form surfaces on 3-axis milling machines. This new approach uses a nonconstant offset of the previous tool-path, which guarantees the cutter moving in an unmachined area of the part surface and without redundant machining. The method comprises three steps: (1) the calculation of the tool-path interval...
