چکیده
Plant derived chemicals are valuable sources for a variety of pharmaceuticals, flavors, dyes, fragrance, stimulants, poisons. Hairy roots are induced in susceptible plants by transformation with Agrobacterium rhizogenes. Here we summarize the recent work using a novel bioreactor, the mist reactor, for the culture of hairy roots from many plant species. This study is based on the development of a mathematical model at root bed level per unit mass basis. Model

Growing hairy roots in bioreactors has proven challenging. Here we summarize the recent work using a novel bioreactor, the mist reactor, for the culture of hairy roots from many plant species. Compared to most liquid-phase bioreactors, this gasphase bioreactor offers a completely different environment for growing roots. Design, modeling, and some of the unique engineering aspects inherent to mi...
متن کاملModelling Of Mist Reactor: Effect Of Packing Fraction And Film Thickness On The Growth Of Hairy Roots
Hairy roots have been successfully cultivated in a variety of reactor configurations. Nutrient mist reactors have been found specially suited to grow these roots because of its easy operation, high oxygen concentration, lack of shear, low pressure, ease in manipulating the gas composition, effective gas exchange in a densely growing biomass and ease of scaling up. In present work, a mathematica...
متن کاملEffects of a nutrient mist bioreactor system on growth kinetics and secondary metabolism of transformed roots of Artemisia annua
Transformed roots are a very promising source of biologically active compounds, but industriallevel production has proved very challenging. Artemisia annua produces artemisinin, a sesquiterpene lactone which is a potent antimalarial. Transformed roots of A. annua have exhibited increased levels of artemisinin when grown in a nutrient mist bioreactor. Additionally, roots showed no evidence of ox...

Background: Nowadays, biotechnological methods such as transgenic hairy root culture and application of elicitors have become an attractive source for secondary metabolites production. Hyssop species (Hyssopus spp.) having active ingredients including antioxidants such as phenolics, in this plant have shown anti-mutagenic, anti-carcinogenic and antiglycemic effects. Objective: The present study...
