چکیده

Gibberellins are compounds that produce a wide variety of growth responses in flowering plants. Among these responses are stimulation of shoot growth for many plant species,' root elongation in maize,2 induction of bolting and flowering in some biennial and long-day plants,3-resumption of normal growth in certain genetically dwarfed genotypes of maize,6 growth stimulation in dwarf strains of peas and beans,7 and the overcoming of physiological dwarfing of apple seedlings.8 Gibberellins also stimulate parthenocarpy in tomatoes,9 promote the germination of light-requiring lettuce seed in the dark,'0 and reverse the light inhibition of pea stem growth."I For the interpretation of these and other effects, it is important to know whether gibberellins or "gibberellin-like" substances occur naturally in flowering plants. The three known gibberellins, gibberellic acid (gibberellin A3), Cj9H2206; gibberellin A (gibberellin Al), C19H2406; and gibberellin A2, C19H2606, are products of certain strains of the imperfect stage of the fungus Gibberella fujikuroi (Saw.) Wr.12-B6 No other organism has been found to contain these compounds. The present paper will report evidence for the occurrence of "gibberellin-like" substances from species of several different families of flowering plants.'7 These substances produce the same growth response in maize dwarfs as do the known gibberellins. RJ values for these substances will also be reported and compared with those for the known gibberellins.

2-Chloroethyl Trimethylammonium Chloride and Related Compounds as Plant Growth Substances. V. Growth, Flowering, and Fruiting Responses as Related to Those Induced by Auxin and Gibberellin.

Several compounds closely related to choline and of the structure CHoX-CHo-N+ (CH3)3 * Clare active as plant growth substances when X is a Cl, Br, or = CH2 group (14). Treated plants develop thicker stems, shorter internodes, and intensely dark green leaves (7, 16, 17). The growth changes simulate those caused by exposure of plants to high light intensities, a short photoperiod, and low tempera...

Forekomst av gibberellinliknande substanser hos gran (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) och deras betydelse for tillvaxt och blomning Abstract ODC 161.4-174.7 Growing shoots and young seedlings of Norway spruce (Picea abies) contain at least six different gibberellin-like substances; most probably none o f them is identical to gibberellic acid or gibberellin A l. The gibberellin-like substances are all ...

Expression of an Oncidium gene encoding a patatin-like protein delays flowering in Arabidopsis by reducing gibberellin synthesis.

The involvement of lipase in flowering is seldom studied, and this research provides evidence that fatty acids produced by lipase affect flowering. OSAG78 encoding a patatin-like protein was isolated from Oncidium Gower Ramsey. OSAG78 fused with green fluorescent protein was found to localize at the cell membrane. Transgenic Arabidopsis overexpressing OSAG78 demonstrated higher lipase activity ...

Metabolism of Tritiated Gibberellins A(4) and A(9) in Norway Spruce, Picea abies (L.) Karst. : Effects of a Cultural Treatment Known to Enhance Flowering.

Shoots of mature grafted propagules of Picea abies (L.) Karst. metabolized [(3)H]gibberellin A(4) (GA(4)) to at least 14 acidic substances, two of which were tentatively identified by gas-liquid radiochromatography as GA(2) (possibly an artifact) and GA(34). [(3)H]GA(9) was converted into a number of metabolites, one of which was chromatographically similar to, but not identical with, GA(4). Me...

Flowering in Radish

The relationship among gibberellins, C vernalization, and photoperiod in the flowering response of radish, Raphanus sativus L., cv. Miyashige-sofuto, was studied. The optimal condition for flowering was vernalization and a 16-hour photoperiod; GA3 had no additional effect. Gibberellin A3 (60 ,jg total) was not able to induce flowering in nonvernalized plants grown on 8-hour days, but it did inc...
