چکیده

Aim: To analyse glenoid fossa position in Class I, II (div 1 and 2) malocclusions and to analyse variation in the shape of the glenoid fossa in different mandibular configurations. Materials and Methods: The cephalometric study was carried on lateral films of 45 subjects aged 12 18 years. They were divided into three groups based on the ANB angle (and anterior occlusal relation) and also based on the mandibular plane angle. Analysis comprised of linear and angular measurements for the assessment of the position of the glenoid fossa and the inclination of articulating surface of the glenoid fossa, which was also correlated with the mandibular configuration. Results: A study group with Class I and II malocclusion div 1 and 2 showed statistically insignificant difference in vertical sella fossa distance whereas, Class II (div 1 and 2) malocclusions showed increased horizontal sella fossa distance than the Class I study group. Low angle subjects showed increased vertical sella fossa distance and ramus height than high angle subjects. Subjects with steep articular eminence inclination have acute gonial angles and subjects tending towards flat articular eminence have obtuse gonial angles. Conclusion: With proper mechanics, Class II cases can be corrected by anterior displacement of the glenoid fossa, high angle cases by an inferior displacement and the reverse for low angle cases.

Background & Aims: A successful treatment in the field of medical sciences depends on an accurate diagnosis. In orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning also analyzing the sagittal jaw base relationship is important. Various methods have been suggested for this. This study aimed to investigate the accuracy of beta angle in sagittal jaw base relationship diagnosis. Materials & Methods: In t...

Evaluation of Canonical Correlations between Masticatory Muscle Orientation and Craniodentofacial Morphology in 10-17 Year_Olds

Objectives: Different theories have been suggested to define factors involved in skeletal and craniofacial morphology. Many of these theories explain that the bone morphology is the result of the bone tissue capability to adapt in response to biomechanical forces exerted during growth. Also, it seems logical to hypothesize that there is a relationship between biomechanical connections of muscle...

The Position of Anatomical Porion in Different Skeletal Relationships

Previous research has shown that the position of glenoid fossa differs in different skeletal relationships. However, it is hard to identify and trace the glenoid fossa on a lateral cephalometric radiograph. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the anteroposterior and the vertical positions of the porion point (P) in different skeletal relationships as seen on lateral cephalometric radio...

Evaluation of Mandibular Third Molar Positions in Various Vertical Skeletal Malocclusions

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the position of mandibular third molar (M3) and vertical skeletal malocclusions. Methods: Materials for the study consisted of panoramic radiographs and lateral cephalograms of 73 fifteen to nineteen-year-old class I patients (girls=66%, boys= 34%). Patients were classified into three groups based on four vertical ...

Amount and direction of temporomandibular joint growth changes in Herbst treatment: a cephalometric long-term investigation.

UNLABELLED The amount and direction of condylar growth, glenoid fossa displacement, and "effective" temporomandibular joint (TMJ) changes (a summation of condylar growth, glenoid fossa displacement, and condylar position changes within the fossa) were analyzed in 35 Class II, Division 1 malocclusions (23 boys and 12 girls) treated with the Herbst appliance. Lateral head films in habitual occlus...
