Flow past two tandem circular cylinders using Spectral element method

چکیده
In this paper, flow past around two circular cylinders which are tandem arranged at a Reynolds number of 200 is numerically investigated by spectral element method. To validate the numerical method for incompressible Navier–Stokes equations, the benchmark problem of flow over a single circular cylinder is employed, with the numerical results in a good agreement with the available literatures. Then, by changing the spacing ratios L/D from 1.2 to 10.0, the flow characteristics, including the flow patterns, force statistical parameters such as the drag and lift coefficients as well as wake oscillation frequencies (Strouhal numbers) are investigated. Numerical results show that there are around three wake flow patterns which are determined by the spacing ratio. In addition, the force parameters are highly affected by the flow patterns.

Spectral-element discontinuous Galerkin lattice Boltzmann simulation of flow past two cylinders in tandem with an exponential time integrator
In this paper, a spectral-element discontinuous Galerkin (SEDG) lattice Boltzmann discretization and an exponential time-marching scheme are used to study the flow field past two circular cylinders in tandem arrangement. The basic idea is to discretize the streaming step of the lattice Boltzmann equation by using SEDG method to get a system of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) whose exact ...
متن کاملNumerical simulation of three-dimensional flow around two circular cylinders in tandem arrangement
Three-dimensional fluid flow around two circular cylinders in tandem arrangement is computed by the finite difference method without a turbulence model. The overlapped grid technique is employed to catch the flow interference between the two tandem cylinders. It is confirmed that the abrupt numerical change of drag coefficients and the Strouhal number is in good agreement with the previous expe...
متن کاملAugmented Stabilized Formulations with Fictitious Boundary Methods
Augmentation of the SUPS formulation was introduced earlier and successfully applied to solving incompressible NavierStokes equations for both two dimensional and three dimensional problems. Fictitious boundary methods (FBM) is a new methodology that aid the study of flow descriptions around solid obstacles on fixed Cartesian product grids that do not require body confirming meshes. FBM has bee...
متن کاملSpeeding up the Stress Analysis of Hollow Circular FGM Cylinders by Parallel Finite Element Method
In this article, a parallel computer program is implemented, based on Finite Element Method, to speed up the analysis of hollow circular cylinders, made from Functionally Graded Materials (FGMs). FGMs are inhomogeneous materials, which their composition gradually varies over volume. In parallel processing, an algorithm is first divided to independent tasks, which may use individual or shared da...
متن کاملAn analysis of a two cylinder-fluid interaction at critical gap spacing by a cell boundary element method
Incompressible viscous, uniform flow past two parallel cylinders of equal diameter at a critical gap spacing g∗ = 0.90 to 1.10 is investigated using the viscous cell boundary element method. In this critical flow zone an irregular interchange of in-phase and anti-phase wake flows is observed and the switching mechanism between the states is investigated. Numerical studies undertaken at space in...
