Information Ubiquity in Austere Locations

چکیده
In today’s world, connectivity is increasingly taken for granted. Wireless networks, cell towers, and satellites provide ubiquitous connectivity through a number of devices. However, in austere locations constant connectivity cannot be assumed, e.g., due to the remoteness of the area, due to a disaster or combat situation, or due to insecurity or lack of access to available communications. This paper describes a system, Marti, which the authors have been developing and demonstrating that can provide inter-connectivity and access to information in austere locations. Marti is rapidly deployable and interoperates with a large number of existing devices and client applications. © 2011 Published by Elsevier Ltd. Point-of-Care Ultrasound in Austere Environments: A Complete Review of Its Utilization, Pitfalls, and Technique for Common Applications in Austere Settings.
With the advent of portable ultrasound machines, point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) has proven to be adaptable to a myriad of environments, including remote and austere settings, where other imaging modalities cannot be carried. Austere environments continue to pose special challenges to ultrasound equipment, but advances in equipment design and environment-specific care allow for its successful ...

Bleeding to death is the most preventable cause of posttraumatic death worldwide. Despite the fact that many of these deaths are anatomically salvageable with relatively basic surgical interventions, they remain lethal in actuality in prehospital environments when no facilities and skills exist to contemplate undertaking basic damage control surgery (DCS). With better attention to prehospital c...
متن کاملTeleconsultation program for deployed soldiers and healthcare professionals in remote and austere environments.
BACKGROUND In April 2004, the US Army Medical Department approved the use of the Army Knowledge Online (AKO) electronic e-mail system as a teleconsultation service for remote teledermatology consultations from healthcare providers in Iraq, Kuwait, and Afghanistan to medical subspecialists in the United States. The success of the system has resulted in expansion of the telemedicine program to in...
متن کاملWeakly Reflective Submanifolds and Austere Submanifolds
We introduce the notion of a weakly reflective submanifold, which is an austere submanifold with a certain global condition, and study its fundamental properties. Using these, we determine weakly reflective orbits and austere orbits of s-representations.

Care of the trauma victim with acute renal failure in resource-limited locations presents a number of challenges [1]. Lack of standard haemodialysis equipment, supplies and trained personnel; unreliable and/or unsafe water sources; and non-functional or unreliable electrical systems, are some of the factors that limit the ability to care for victims with renal failure requiring renal replacemen...
