How to solve the price puzzle ?

چکیده
The short-run increase in prices following an unexpected tightening of monetary policy represents a frequently reported puzzle. Yet the puzzle is surprisingly easy to explain away when all published models are quantitatively reviewed. We collect about 1,000 point estimates of impulse responses from 70 articles using vector autoregressive models and present a simple method of research synthesis for graphical results. We find some evidence of publication selection against the price puzzle. Our results suggest that the reported impulse responses depend systematically on the study design: when misspecifications are filtered out, the average impulse response shows that prices decrease soon after a tightening. The long-run response of prices to monetary policy shocks depends on the characteristics of the economy. JEL Codes: C83, E52.

The Effect of Monetary Shocks on Disaggregated Prices in a Data Rich Environment: a Bayesian FAVAR Approach
Price stability has been the foremost task of monetary policy. The information relating to the response of prices to monetary policy shocks is essential for conducting monetary policy in general and for inflation targeting of central banks in particular. Most of the published empirical studies analyze the response of an aggregate price index like CPI or a consumption deflator and their r...
متن کاملIncorporating Return on Inventory Investment into Joint Lot-Sizing and Price Discriminating Decisions: A Fuzzy Chance Constraint Programming Model
Coordination of market decisions with other aspects of operations management such as production and inventory decisions has long been a meticulous research issue in supply chain management. Generally, changes to the original lot-sizing policy stimulated by market prices may impose remarkable deviation revenue throughout the supply and demand chain system. This paper examines how to set the chan...
متن کاملOn the Footsteps to Generalized Tower of Hanoi Strategy
In this paper, our aim is to prove that our recursive algorithm to solve the “Reve’s puzzle” (fourpeg Tower of Hanoi) is the optimal solution according to minimum number of moves. Here we used Frame’s five step algorithm to solve the “Reve’s puzzle”, and proved its optimality analyzing all possible strategies to solve the problem. Minimum number of moves is important because no one ever proved ...
متن کاملPrice Discovery in the Foreign Exchange Market a Thesis Submitted to the Cass Business School, City University of London, for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Faculty of Finance
This thesis investigates the price discovery in the foreign exchange market using high frequency data. Traditional exchange rate models assume market homogeneity and the sole existence of public information. However. recent studies suggest such assumptions are not well founded and have generated the 'disconnection' puzzle of exchange rates deviating from their fundamentals in the short and medi...
متن کاملStrategic Asset Allocation with Arbitrage-Free Bond Market using Dynamic Programming
Recently, Campbell and Viceira (2002) have introduced an intertemporal framework for asset allocation problem where the interest rate and the asset price dynamics are varying with the time. This paper follows up their work and try to explain the asset allocation puzzle of Canner, Mankiw and Weil(1997). We consider the bond prices systematically by integrating the no-arbitrage bond pricing model...
