The Responses by Gut-Associated and Bronchus-Associated Lymphoid Tissues of Buffalo Calves Following Oral Exposure to Pasteurella multocida B:2

چکیده
This report describes the mucosal immune response in the gastro-intestinal and respiratory tracts of buffalo calves following oral exposure to live wild-type Pasteurella multocida B:2. Nine buffalo calves of approximately 8 months old were treated with intramuscular injections of dexamethasone for 3 consecutive days before they were divided into 3 groups. Calves of group 1 were exposed orally to 50 ml inoculums containing 109 colony forming units (CFU)/ml of live wild-type P. multocida B:2. Calves of group 2 were exposed intratrachea with 5ml of the same inocula while calves of group 3 were given 50ml of PBS orally. At the end of day 7 post-exposure, all surviving calves were killed and organs of gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts were processed for histology examination. The presence of lymphoid nodules, the size of the nodules and the number of lymphocytes were noted. Both oral and intra-trachea exposures elicited mucosal responses in both gastro-intestinal and respiratory tracts. Oral exposure stimulated significantly (p<0.05) superior mucosal response in the gastrointestinal tract, while intratracheal exposure stimulated significantly (p<0.05) superior mucosal response in the respiratory tract. Overall, oral exposure was able to stimulate the distance mucosal sites such as the respiratory tract and provides potential use for oral administration of live vaccine against haemorrhagic septicaemia.

New sites of localisation of Pasteurella multocida B:2 in buffalo surviving experimental haemorrhagic septicaemia
BACKGROUND Haemorrhagic septicaemia (HS) is an acute septicaemic disease of buffalo and cattle caused by Pasteurella multocida B:2 and E:2. Field outbreaks of HS are known to result in localisation of bacteria in the tonsils of surviving buffalo, confirming that animals can become carriers and the role of respiratory tract in the transmission of the disease. This report describes additional sit...

Pasteurella multocida is responsible for one of the major animal diseases with economic importance in both developed and developing countries. P. multocida B:2 causes haemorrhagic septicemia (HS) in cattle and buffaloes, which result in heavy economic losses through direct effect, resulting in high mortality rates and indirect effects through impairment of the animal productivity. It is well kn...

Three oil-adjuvant vaccines of Pasteurella multocida 6:B were evaluated with respect to the level and duration of the humoral immune response produced in buffalo calves. Preparation 1 was a water-in-oil emulsion containing Marcol 52, Montanide 888 and antigen at a ratio of 6:1:3. Preparation 2 was a double emulsion containing Marcol 52, Arlacel A and Tween 80 in addition to antigen. Preparation...

Pasteurella multocida B:2 is an etiological agent of hemorrhagic septicemia in cattle and buffaloes. It is commonly fatal and considered as one of the most economically important cattle diseases in Southeast Asia. This study describes the pathological changes in the lungs of calves following intra-tracheal challenge with wild-type P. multocida B:2. For this purpose, six calves of 8-month old we...
