چکیده

An overview is given of the status of arrays of bolometric detectors for space astrophysics at wavelengths from ~ 40 to ~ 3000μm. The existing technologies based on semiconductor thermistors that are being prepared for current space missions are described first. The new opportunities provided by superconducting TES technology for large format arrays with multiplexed readouts are then described. Finally, ideas for long wavelength superconducting photon detection are described. References are given to papers on these subjects from the workshop.

Integrated Focal Plane Arrays for Millimeter- wave Astronomy

We are developing focal plane arrays of bolometric detectors for sub-millimeter and millimeter-wave astrophysics. We propose a flexible array architecture using arrays of slot antennae coupled via low-loss superconducting Nb transmission line to microstrip filters and antenna-coupled bolometers. By combining imaging and filtering functions with transmission line, we are able to realize unique s...

Characterization of Terahertz Single-Photon-Sensitive Bolometric Detectors Using a Pulsed Microwave Technique

We describe a technique for characterizing bolometric detectors that have sufficient sensitivity to count single terahertz photons. The device is isolated from infrared blackbody radiation and a single terahertz photon is simulated by a fast microwave pulse, where the absorbed energy of the pulse is equal to the photon energy. We have employed this technique to characterize bolometric detectors...

Bolometric interferometry: the millimeter-wave bolometric interferometer

Bolometric interferometry is not a new idea, but this technique has not been demonstrated at millimeter wavelengths. The millimeter-wave bolometric interferometer combines the advantages of two well-developed technologies – interferometers and bolometric detectors – and will open a new region of sensitivity and angular resolution not previously accessible to other instruments. 2003 Elsevier B.V...

Non-linear Behaviour of Bolometric Detectors in Fourier Spectroscopy

The non-linear behaviour of bolometric detectors can lead to significant radiometric errors in Fourier spectroscopy if left uncorrected. We discuss a preliminary investigation of this effect and its correction. © 2009 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (300.6300) Spectroscopy, Fourier transforms; (300.6270) Spectroscopy, far infrared.

Nustar Reveals an Intrinsically X-ray Weak Broad Absorption Line Quasar in the Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxy Markarian 231

We present high-energy (3–30 keV) NuSTAR observations of the nearest quasar, the ultraluminous infrared galaxy (ULIRG) Markarian 231 (Mrk 231), supplemented with new and simultaneous low-energy (0.5–8 keV) data from Chandra. The source was detected, though at much fainter levels than previously reported, likely due to contamination in the large apertures of previous non-focusing hard X-ray tele...
