چکیده

Geographical variation in health is one of the key domains of epidemiological investigations. The role of neighbourhood or community level factors in health and disease is a growing area of study, as the physical and social environment in which a person lives and works can affect their health, even after accounting for individual risk factors. 1 The World Health Organisation’s (WHO) endorsement of the Rio Declaration has recently refocused political will to improve public health and reduce health inequalities through action on social determinants of health.2 Action requires understanding the status of health inequalities, causal risk factors and their impact, and evidence based interventions. Epidemiological studies on neighbourhood risk factors are important to public health and policy because they help us to understand and address health inequalities, and lead to development of potential interventions.

Protective and harmful effects of neighborhood-level deprivation on individual-level health knowledge, behavior changes, and risk of coronary heart disease.

The authors examined associations between neighborhood-level deprivation and cardiovascular disease-related health knowledge and behavior changes, as well as the estimated 12-year probability of experiencing a coronary heart disease event. Primary analyses included multilevel regression models among 8,197 women and men living in 82 neighborhoods in four northern California cities who were inter...

Association between neighborhood deprivation and fruits and vegetables consumption and leisure-time physical activity: a cross-sectional multilevel analysis

BACKGROUND Most studies of the association between neighborhood socioeconomic deprivation and individual lifestyles leading to cardiovascular disease focused on a single cardiovascular risk factor. The concomitant assessment of more than one risk factor may provide clues to specific mechanisms linking neighborhood disadvantage to individual lifestyles. We investigated the association of neighbo...

Do neighborhood socioeconomic deprivation and low social cohesion predict coronary calcification?: the CARDIA study.

Growing evidence suggests that neighborhood characteristics may influence the risk of coronary heart disease. No studies have yet explored associations of neighborhood attributes with subclinical atherosclerosis in younger adult populations. Using data on 2,974 adults (1,699 women, 1,275 men) aged 32-50 years in 2000 from the Coronary Artery Disease Risk Development in Young Adults (CARDIA) Stu...

Neighborhood Deprivation Is Strongly Associated with Participation in a Population-Based Health Check

BACKGROUND We sought to examine whether neighborhood deprivation is associated with participation in a large population-based health check. Such analyses will help answer the question whether health checks, which are designed to meet the needs of residents in deprived neighborhoods, may increase participation and prove to be more effective in preventing disease. In Europe, no study has previous...

RAPID EYE MOVEMENT SLEEP DEPRIVATION INDUCES ACETYLCHOLINESTERASE A CTIVITY IN THE PREOPTIC AREA OF THE RAT BRAIN

Acetylcholinesterase (AchE) is a large glycoprotein that, aside from its known cholinolytic activity, co-exists with other transmitter systems and possesses other functions. In the present study, the effects of short-term rapid-eye-movement sleep deprivation (REM-SD) on AchE activity in the anterior hypothalamic area have been investigated. Using the flower-pot method, adult male albino ra...
