چکیده

This paper proves sufficient conditions under which a completely separable order on non-convex sets can be represented by an additively separable function. The two major requirements are that indifference curves are connected and that intersections of the domain of the order with parallel-to-the-axes hyperplanes are connected. On the Separability of the Quasi Concave Closure of an Additively Separable Function

Let 2 be a binary relation on R’!+. The convexed relation 2 is defined by xky iff Vz[y~conv{w:w~z}]*[x~conv{w:w~z)] [see Hildenbrand (1974)]. Starr (1969), first formally presented this relation, which was used by him and by others in equilibrium analysis of markets with non-convex preference relations [see for example Shaked (1976)]. The question arises which properties of the unconvexed relat...

Non-existence of recursive equilibria on compact state spaces when markets are incomplete

This paper analyzes one-good exchange economies with two infinitely-lived agents and incomplete markets. It is shown that there are no recursive (Markov) equilibria for which borrowing (debt) constraints never bind if the state space of exogenous and endogenous variables is a compact subset of IR. Moreover, for large enough (but finite) borrowing limits, no recursive equilibrium with compact st...

Upper Bounds on the Time and Space Complexity of Optimizing Additively Separable Functions

We present upper bounds on the time and space complexity of finding the global optimum of additively separable functions, a class of functions that has been studied extensively in the evolutionary computation literature. The algorithm presented uses efficient linkage discovery in conjunction with local search. Using our algorithm, the global optimum of an order-k additively separable function d...

Competitive Equilibrium when Preferences

We show the existence of a competitive equilibrium in an economy with many consumers whose preferences may change over time. The demand correspondence of an individual consumer is determined by the set of subgameperfect equilibrium outcomes in his or her intrapersonal game. For additively separable preferences with continuous period utility functions that are unbounded above, this demand corres...

The Bernstein Mechanism: Function Release under Differential Privacy

We investigate the problem of privately answering queries on databases consisting of points in [0, 1]. We prove the following results. First, we show that there exists a computationally efficient ε-differentially private mechanism that releases a query class parametrized by additively separable Hölder continuous functions. Second, we show that, if the query class is instead parametrized by addi...
