چکیده
Article history: Received 3 March 2009 Received in revised form 14 July 2009 Accepted 3 September 2009 Available online 14 October 2009 Tariffs and anti-dumping duties are two important tools used to protect industries from foreign competition and to generate revenue. While the two tools have been studied extensively in separate contexts, little is known about their comparative effects. This paper compares their effects on prices, profits, government revenue, industry protection, and welfare in a twocountry framework where a dominant firm in one country exports to the other inhabited by an oligopoly. Conditions under which one tool dominates the other for a given criterion are provided. Published by Elsevier Inc. JEL classification: F12 F13 L11 L13

Anti-dumping Duties and their Impact on Exporters: Firm Level Evidence from China
— Despite a dramatic rise in the instances of anti-dumping (AD) duties, their impact on the targeted firms is not clear. Using detailed firm level data we find robust evidence that the US AD duty led to over 12 (or five) percent decrease in labor productivity (or TFP) of targeted Chinese firms. We also find that firms with high initial export intensity experience both a higher decrease in expor...

If antidumping duties were to provide a systematic defense against predation by foreign firms, however, a strong “fair-trade” justification would remain. This paper ad...
متن کاملAnti-dumping: A Growing Problem in International Trade
FOR most of its 100 years of existence, anti-dumping (AD) was not nearly the problem that it is today. In fact, for most of its existence it is fair to say that AD could hardly have been called a problem for the international trading community. Over its first 70 years, AD was neither widely adopted nor were AD duties widely imposed by the handful of countries who were AD users. Over the last 30...

This paper determines the effect that offset payments under the Continued Dumping and Subsidy Offset Act (CDSOA also known as the Byrd Amendment) have on tariff levels that are lobbied for by U.S. producer groups. We derive the optimum antidumping tariff that would maximize the welfare of producers receiving CDSOA offset payments. We compare and contrast this newly derived optimal antidumpin...
