چکیده

The symptomatology, reading ability, anxiety levels, responsiveness to therapy, and speechmotor behavior of elementaryand high-school children who stutter and had a positive family history of stuttering were compared with those of stutterers with a negative kinship history of stuttering. The stutterers with a positive family history of stuttering differed significantly from those whose family history was negative with respect to the frequency of silent and oral prolongations and speech-motor behavior. These findings suggest that their neuromotor functioning is related to their genetic susceptibility to stuttering.

Acoustic analysis of stutterers' fluent speech before and after therapy.

The speech of 14 stutterers was analyzed prior to and at the termination of a 5-week stuttering therapy program to examine the relationship between nine selected acoustic variables and stuttering frequency. Group analyses indicated that pre- to post-therapy changes in stuttering frequency were accompanied by mean changes in five of the nine acoustic variables, a finding which is consistent with...

Some characteristics of nonfluency in normal speakers and stutterers.

The 1st study investigated the relationship between nonfluency and information value in the oral reading of normal 5s, controlling for the known relationship between nonfluency and sentence position of the words. As expected from studies of stuttering, a positive nonfluency-information relationship was found. The 2nd study investigated the same relationship in the spontaneous speech of normal 5...

A comparison of disfluency patterns in normal and stuttered speech

While speech disfluencies are commonly found in every speaker’s speech, stuttering is a language disorder characterized by an abnormally high rate of speech aberrations, including prolongation, cessation, and repetition of speech segments [5]. However, despite the obvious differences between stuttered and normal speech, identifying the crucial qualities that identify stuttered speech remains a ...

Right rolandic activation during speech perception in stutterers: a MEG study.

The focus of our magnetoencephalographic (MEG) study was to obtain further insight into the neuronal organization of language processing in stutterers. We recorded neuronal activity of 10 male developmental stutterers and 10 male controls, while they listened to pure tones, to words in order to repeat them, and to sentences in order to either repeat or transform them into passive form. Stimulat...

Articulatory Rate and Stuttering 1 Effect of Normal and Fast Articulatory Rates on Stuttering Frequency

The effect of speech rate on stuttering frequency was investigated with 20 stutterers. Subjects read two different 300 syllable passages at a normal and fast speech rate. Stuttering counts and articulatory rate was determined for each speech sample. Articulatory rates were derived from portions of the passages which were perceptually fluent. No statistically significant difference in stuttering...
