Posterior thigh compartment syndrome associated with hamstring avulsion and chronic anticoagulation therapy.

چکیده
Acute compartment syndrome consists of increased tissue pressure in a closed anatomical area leading to decreased vascular perfusion. It is frequently caused by trauma, fractures, or compression injuries1-16 and usually occurs in the forearm or lower leg. Reports of acute compartment syndrome of the thigh, especially without an associated fracture, are rare.1,2,4,5,10,11,14 This article presents posterior thigh compartment syndrome following an avulsion of the semitendinosus and long head of the biceps femoris muscles in a patient on chronic coumadin therapy for protein S deficiency, a common hypercoaguable state. This is the only reported case of posterior thigh compartment syndrome caused by a hamstring avulsion.

Compartment syndrome of the thigh is a rare occurrence potentially leading to devastating functional restrictions. متن کاملEndoscopic repair of proximal hamstring avulsion.
Hamstring muscle injuries are common in athletes and mostly consist of sprains at the myotendinous junction, which often respond well to conservative treatment. Proximal hamstring avulsion injuries, though less common, can be severely debilitating. This injury is often seen in water skiers but has been described in many other sports and in middle-aged patients. Complete avulsions in young and a...
متن کاملHamstring injuries
There is a continuum of hamstring injuries that can range from musculotendinous strains to avulsion injuries. Although the proximal hamstring complex has a strong bony attachment on the ischial tuberosity, hamstring injuries are common in athletic population and can affect all levels of athletes. Nonoperative treatment is mostly recommended in the setting of low-grade partial tears and insertio...
