چکیده

Evolution of indirect communication between two embodied agents is the research topic addressed in this thesis. Indirect communication is a niche that should be more common in intelligent robotics as it is essential in most areas where humans are present. Indirect communication is robust and can serve as either a supporting tool or a substitute for other means of communication. Evolutionary approach to emergence of the indirect communication will be investigated in NAO robots, as one robot will train another robot to understand the meaning of gestures given by the former. Cognitive architecture of the trainer will be evolved using HyperNEAT algorithm with a threshold to enforce modularity of the evolved controller, where every module will be responsible for a particular function of the robot. The evolved controller will be tested in reduced RoboCup environment with one robot being a goalie and a trainer and another a kicker. This report summarises available literature on the topic and displays a plan for the implementation of the system.

Deception Undermines the Stability of Cooperation in Games of Indirect Reciprocity

Indirect reciprocity is often claimed as one of the key mechanisms of human cooperation. It works only if there is a reputational score keeping and each individual can inform with high probability which other individuals were good or bad in the previous round. Gossip is often proposed as a mechanism that can maintain such coherence of reputations in the face of errors of transmission. Random er...

Cooperation in communication networks: indirect reciprocity in interactions between cleaner fish and client reef fish

The aim of this chapter is twofold. First, to outline how recent developments in cooperation theory are so similar to the communication network concept (McGregor, 1993) that a unified terminology would be useful to facilitate exchange of ideas. Second, we argue that the communication network concept provides an evolutionary framework to predict the widespread occurrence of phenomena that until ...

Powering up with indirect reciprocity in a large-scale field experiment.

A defining aspect of human cooperation is the use of sophisticated indirect reciprocity. We observe others, talk about others, and act accordingly. We help those who help others, and we cooperate expecting that others will cooperate in return. Indirect reciprocity is based on reputation, which spreads by communication. A crucial aspect of indirect reciprocity is observability: reputation effect...

Communication and collective action: language and the evolution of human cooperation

All social species face various “collective action problems” (CAPs) or “social dilemmas,” meaning problems in achieving cooperating when the best move from a selfish point of view yields an inferior collective outcome. Compared to most other species, humans are very good at solving these challenges, suggesting that something rather peculiar about human sociality facilitates collective action. T...

Partner Choice Drives the Evolution of Cooperation via Indirect Reciprocity

Indirect reciprocity potentially provides an important means for generating cooperation based on helping those who help others. However, the use of 'image scores' to summarize individuals' past behaviour presents a dilemma: individuals withholding help from those of low image score harm their own reputation, yet giving to defectors erodes cooperation. Explaining how indirect reciprocity could e...
