25-hydroxycholecalciferol serum levels in breast-fed infants.
نویسندگان
چکیده
Serum 25-hydroxycholecalciferol levels were measured longitudinally in a series of breast-feeding mothers and their healthy, term infants for up to 6 months after birth. Although levels both in mothers and infants were lower at 6 weeks' postpartum than at delivery and in cord blood, there was little change thereafter with unsupplemented breast feeding. These findings do not support recommendations for routine supplementation of breast-fed term infants with vitamin D.

5 Hydroxy Cholecalciferol Levels in Infants with Hypocalcemic Seizures
Objective: To determine the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency (25-hydroxycholecalciferol) in infants with hypocalcemic seizures and the relation of severity of vitamin D (25-hydroxy Cholecalciferol) deficiency with the occurrence of hypocalcemic seizures. Design: Cross sectional analytical study. Setting: pediatric emergency department of a tertiary care hospital. Methods: 60 consecutive term ...
متن کاملDifferences in serum biochemistry between breast-fed and formula-fed infants.
BACKGROUND We investigated the differences in serum biochemistry levels between breast-fed and formula-fed infants. We provide reference values of serum biochemistry levels for 4-week-old (w/o) and 8 w/o infants for future clinical applications. METHODS Sixty healthy infants were enrolled in this study (30 infants were included in the breast-fed and formula-fed groups, respectively). During h...
متن کاملReduction of Saliva and Serum 25-Hydroxycholecalciferol in Multiple Sclerosis
Methods: The prevalence of multiple sclerosis (MS) is high in patients suffering from 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 [25(OH)D] deficiency. The aim of this study was to investigate the possible association of saliva and serum 25(OH)D concentrations with MS in women. Methods: Serum and saliva 25(OH)D levels of 30 MS women and 30 matched healthy controls in this case-control study were measured by ELIS...
متن کاملLongitudinal study on the effectiveness of vitamin D supplements in exclusively breast-fed infants
Vitamin D deficiency is a common health problem in infancy. Breast-fed infants are at a higher risk of rickets than formula-fed infants. We observed fluctuations in vitamin D levels in infancy (phase I, 2009-2010) and considered the benefits of vitamin D supplementation specifically in exclusively breast-fed infants in Japan (phase II, 2015). Infants born at our hospital were enrolled in this s...
متن کاملTear and serum vitamin D levels in children with allergic rhinoconjunctivitis.
BACKGROUND Although solid cohort studies confirmed a preventative role for the anti-oxidant vitamin D in allergic asthma, a limited number of studies focused on allergic rhinoconjunctivitis (ARC). Here, we aimed to determine 25-hydroxycholecalciferol levels in tear and serum in young allergic rhinoconjunctivitis patients as compared to their apparently healthy matched controls. METHODS In tot...
