A Latent Space Analysis of Editor Lifecycles in Wikipedia
نویسندگان
چکیده
Collaborations such as Wikipedia are a key part of the value of the modern Internet. At the same time there is concern that these collaborations are threatened by high levels of member turnover. In this paper we borrow ideas from topic analysis to editor activity on Wikipedia over time into a latent space that offers an insight into the evolving patterns of editor behavior. This latent space representation reveals a number of different categories of editor (e.g. content experts, social net-workers) and we show that it does provide a signal that predicts an editor's departure from the community. We also show that long term editors gradually diversify their participation by shifting edit preference from one or two namespaces to multiple namespaces and experience relatively soft evolution in their editor profiles, while short term editors generally distribute their contribution randomly among the namespaces and experience considerably fluctuated evolution in their editor profiles.

متن کاملEdit Categories and Editor Role Identification in Wikipedia
In this work, we introduced a corpus for categorizing edit types in Wikipedia. This fine-grained taxonomy of edit types enables us to differentiate editing actions and find editor roles in Wikipedia based on their low-level edit types. To do this, we first created an annotated corpus based on 1,996 edits obtained from 953 article revisions and built machine-learning models to automatically iden...
متن کاملRoles and Success in Wikipedia Talk Pages: Identifying Latent Patterns of Behavior
In this work we investigate how role-based behavior profiles of a Wikipedia editor, considered against the backdrop of roles taken up by other editors in discussions, predict the success of the editor at achieving an impact on the associated article. We first contribute a new public dataset including a task predicting the success of Wikipedia editors involved in discussion, measured by an opera...
متن کاملTopic Lifecycle on Social Networks: Analyzing the Effects of Semantic Continuity and Social Communities
Topic lifecycle analysis on Twitter, a branch of study that investigates Twitter topics from their birth through lifecycle to death, has gained immense mainstream research popularity. In the literature, topics are often treated as one of (a) hashtags (independent from other hashtags), (b) a burst of keywords in a short time span or (c) a latent concept space captured by advanced text analysis m...
متن کاملINEX 2012 Benchmark a Semantic Space for Tweets Contextualization

Contextualization is build with the sentences from English Wikipedia. The context is obtained by querying a baseline system of summary. The query is made with words from a semantic space that is estimated via a...
