Nylon - 1313 from Brassylic Acid
نویسنده
چکیده
Multi-pound production of nylon-1313 demonstrates that there are no serious obstacles to commercial production of this long-chain polyamide. The synthesis of nylon-1313 is remarkably simple and straightforward when compared to the reactions required to produce nylon-11 and -12. In many ways nylon-1313 is comparable to these other nylons, but it is lower melting, slightly less dense, and more hydrophobic than either of its counterparts. This engineering resin can be produced economically using brassylic acid derived from crambe or other high-erucic acid oils. Predicted yield in a 10 million Iblyear plant facility is about 831b of molten polymer per 100 Ib of crude brassylic acid, or the equivalent of about 96% of theory.

13-aminotridecanoic Acid from Erucic Acid
13-Aminotridecanoic acid, the monomer for nylon 13, was synthesized from commercial erucic acid or its derivatives by several methods in a study to determine the method of choice, which involved oxidative ozonolysis of eruconitrile, followed by esterification before isolation to give methyl 12-cyanododecanoate. The cyano ester was then catalytically reduced and hydrolyzed, without isolation of ...

Papain-Catalyzed Synthesis of Polyglutamate Containing a Nylon Monomer Unit
Peptides have the potential to serve as an alternative for petroleum-based polymers to support a sustainable society. However, they lack thermoplasticity, owing to their strong intermolecular interactions. In contrast, nylon is famous for its thermoplasticity and chemical resistance. Here, we synthesized peptides containing a nylon unit to modify their thermal properties by using papain-catalyz...
متن کاملNylon-9 from Unsaturated Fatty Derivatives: Preparation and Characterization
Methyl azelaaldehydate, soy nitriles, and oleonitrile were compared as starting materials for making nylon-9. Less difficulty was encountered in purifying intermediates from oleonitrile than from the other two. All 3 routes involved hydrolysis of methyl 9-aminononanoate to 9-aminononanoic acid. Self catalyzed hydrolysis of the amino ester in water produced low yields of monomer owing to oligome...
متن کاملSynthesis of Polyaniline/Polyamide composites as membrane and investigation of its properties
Practical applications of conducting polymers such as polyaniline as membranes are particulary limitedbecause of their poor mechanical properties. However by mixing polyaniline with some conventional insulatingpolymers such as nylon and preparation composite films through solvent casting or blending, it seems to be asuitable way in order to increase the mechanical properties of the conducting p...
