چکیده

The present experiment examined auditory evoked p~tentials (AEPs) under three c~>Dditions of auditory stimulation: left ear, right ear, and the two ears sl~ultaneously. It was h~potheslzed that the white-noise stimulus would result in higher amplitude AEPs In the contralateral hemisphere as compared to the ipsilateral. This was confirmed. There were no latency differences ~ AEPs recor~ed from over ipsilateral and contralateral hemispheres. The results obtained appear to prOVide further eVidence for the predominance of the contralateral pathways of the auditory system.

The Efficiency of Simultaneous Binaural Ocular Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials: A Comparative Study with Monaural Acoustic Stimulation in Healthy Subjects

OBJECTIVES To evaluate the test-retest reliability and convenience of simultaneous binaural acoustic-evoked ocular vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (oVEMP). METHODS Thirteen healthy subjects with no history of ear diseases participated in this study. All subjects underwent oVEMP test with both separated monaural acoustic stimulation and simultaneous binaural acoustic stimulation. For eva...

Binaural interactions of electrically and acoustically evoked responses recorded from the inferior colliculus of guinea pigs.

Binaural interactions within the inferior colliculus (IC) elicited by electric and acoustic stimuli were investigated in this study. Using a guinea pig model, binaural acoustic stimuli were presented with different time delays, as were combinations of binaural electric and acoustic stimuli. Averaged evoked potentials were measured using electrodes inserted into the central nucleus of the IC to ...

Hemispheric asymmetry for auditory processing in the human auditory brain stem, thalamus, and cortex.

We report evidence for a context- and not stimulus-dependent functional asymmetry in the left and right human auditory midbrain, thalamus, and cortex in response to monaural sounds. Neural activity elicited by left- and right-ear stimulation was measured simultaneously in the cochlear nuclei, inferior colliculi (ICs), medial geniculate bodies (MGBs), and auditory cortices (ACs) in 2 functional ...

Monaural and binaural contributions to interaural-level-difference sensitivity in human auditory cortex

Whole-brain functional magnetic resonance imaging was used to measure blood-oxygenation-level-dependent (BOLD) responses in human auditory cortex (AC) to sounds with intensity varying independently in the left and right ears. Echoplanar images were acquired at 3 Tesla with sparse image acquisition once per 12-second block of sound stimulation. Combinations of binaural intensity and stimulus pre...

Comparison of Binaural Interaction Component (BIC) in Symmetrical and Asymmetrical Hearing Loss: Pilot Study

Background and Objective: Binaural interaction component has been seen to be effective in assessing the binaural interaction process in normal hearing individuals. However, there is a lack of literature regarding the effects of SNHL on the Binaural Interaction Component of ABR. Hence, it is necessary to study binaural interaction occurs at the brainstem when there is an associated hearing impai...
