چکیده

These lectures give an introduction to thermal perturbation theory, hard thermal loops, and their use in a nonperturbative, approximately self-consistent resummation of the thermodynamical potentials of quantum chromodynamics.

We discuss a model-independent framework for the analysis of the radiative B-meson decays B → K * γ and B → ργ based on the heavy-quark limit of QCD. We present a factorization formula for the treatment of B → V γ matrix elements involving charm (or up-quark) loops, which contribute at leading power in ΛQCD/mB to the decay amplitude. Annihilation topologies are power suppressed, but still calcu...

The conventional weak-coupling expansion for thermodynamic quantities in hot field theories shows poor convergence unless the coupling constant is tiny. I discuss screened perturbation theory (SPT) which is a way of reorganizing the perturbative expansion for scalar theories and hard-thermal-loop perturbation theory (HTLPT), which is its generalization to gauge theories. I present results for t...

We computed the static potential and Wilson loops to O(α 2) in perturbation theory for different lattice quark and gluon actions. In general, we find short distance lattice data to be well described by " boosted perturbation theory ". For Wilson-type fermions at present-day quark masses and lattice spacings agreement within 10 % between measured " β-shifts " and those predicted by perturbation ...

Radiative decays of B-mesons, such as B → Kγ or B → ργ provide important tests of the Standard Model and of new physics scenarios. However, besides the dominant pointlike b → sγ or b → dγ transitions generated by loops of heavy particles, there are ordinary weak decay mechanisms. In particular the decay B → ργ can proceed via the usual four-Fermi weak transition accompanied by a photon radiated...

We examine the total energy E tot (r) = 2m pole + V QCD (r) of the b ¯ b system within per-turbative QCD up to O(α 3 S). We extend a previous analysis by incorporating effects of the non-zero charm-quark mass in loops. We find that, once the renormalon cancellation is performed, E tot (r) agrees well with typical phenomenological potentials for heavy quarkonia at distances 0.5 GeV −1 < ∼ r < ∼ ...
