Some Computational Issues in Large Strain Elasto-plastic Analysis

چکیده
The stress integration procedure proposed by Eterovic and Bathe [Inr. J. numer. Merh. Engng 30, 1099-l 114 (1990).] is studied in detail. The elasto-plasticity formulation is based on the use of the total logarithmic strains and Cauchy stresses, and the Euler backward method of time integration. The accuracy of the procedure is assessed in the solution of various analysis problems and is compared with the accuracy of other schemes. Two important conclusions are reached. First, for a selected level of accuracy, the use of the total strain formulation, in general, allows larger time steps than the use of a stress-rate based formulation (such as a formulation based on the Jaumann stress rate). Second, the original procedure of Eterovic and Bathe can be improved in accuracy by using the trapezoidal rule with a measure to limit the magnitude of the elasto-plastic strain increment per step. This improvement allows for the change of principal stress directions during the incremental step. This capability seems to be unique to this formulation and time integration.

Computational issues in large strain elasto-plasticity: an algorithm for mixed hardening and plastic spin
In this paper an algorithm for large strain elasto-plasticity with isotropic hyperelasticity based on the multiplicative decomposition is formulated. The algorithm includes a (possible) constitutive equation for the plastic spin and mixed hardening in which the principal stress and principal backstress directions are not necessarily preserved. It is shown that if the principal trial stress dire...
متن کاملComputational Modeling of the Forward and Reverse Problems in Instrumented Sharp Indentation
A comprehensive computational study was undertaken to identify the extent to which elastoplastic properties of ductile materials could be determined from instrumented sharp indentation and to quantify the sensitivity of such extracted properties to variations in the measured indentation data. Large deformation finite element computations were carried out for 76 different combinations of elasto-...
متن کاملElasto-plastic analysis of discontinuous medium using linearly conforming radial point interpolation method
In this paper, the linearly conforming enriched radial basis point interpolation method is implemented for the elasto-plastic analysis of discontinuous medium. The linear conformability of the method is satisfied by the application of stabilized nodal integration and the enrichment of radial basis functions is achieved by the addition of linear polynomial terms. To implement the method for the ...
متن کاملEffects of mechanical properties and surface friction on elasto-plastic sliding contact
Indentation hardness has been used extensively for material characterization and many recent computational studies have established quantitative relationships between elasto-plastic mechanical properties and the response in instrumented indentation. In contrast, very few studies have systematically quantified the effect of the plastic deformation characteristics on the frictional sliding respon...
متن کاملElasto-plastic solution for thick-walled spherical vessels with an inner FGM layer
Purely elastic, partially and fully plastic stress states in a thick-walled spherical pressure vessel with an inner functionally graded material (FG) coating subjected to internal and external pressures are developed analytically in this paper. The modulus of elasticity and the uniaxial yield limit of the FG coating layer are considered to vary nonlinearly through the thickness. Using Tresca’s ...
