Investigation of brachial plexus traction lesions by peripheral and spinal somatosensory evoked potentials.

چکیده
Peripheral, spinal and cortical somatosensory evoked potentials were recorded in 26 patients with unilateral traction injuries of the brachial plexus ganglia. Of 10 cases explored surgically the recordings correctly anticipated the major site of the lesion in eight.

The investigation of traumatic lesions of the brachial plexus by electromyography and short latency somatosensory potentials evoked by stimulation of multiple peripheral nerves.
A study of 10 patients with brachial plexus trauma was performed to determine whether the diagnostic accuracy of sensory evoked potentials (SEPs) may be improved by using stimulation of multiple peripheral nerves (median, radial, musculocutaneous and ulnar). In addition, the relative advantages of SEPs and peripheral electrophysiological studies were considered. SEP patterns following most comm...
متن کاملEvoked spinal cord potentials for diagnosis during brachial plexus surgery.
We used evoked spinal cord potentials (ESCP) for intraoperative diagnosis in 17 cases of traumatic brachial plexus palsy. Forty spinal nerves were directly stimulated during exploration of the brachial plexus and ESCP recorded from the cervical epidural space were compared with simultaneously observed somatosensory evoked potentials (SEP) and myelographic findings. Both SEP and ESCP could be ev...
متن کاملDetection of evolving injury to the brachial plexus during transaxillary robotic thyroidectomy.
OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS Continuous intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) of transcranial electric motor evoked potentials (tceMEPs) and somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEPs) has gained universal acceptance as an efficacious method for detecting emerging positional brachial plexopathy or peripheral nerve compression during spinal and shoulder surgery. This has implications for transaxillary thyr...
متن کاملDiagnostic Value and Surgical Implications of the 3D DW-SSFP MRI On the Management of Patients with Brachial Plexus Injuries
Three-dimensional diffusion-weighted steady-state free precession (3D DW-SSFP) of high-resolution magnetic resonance has emerged as a promising method to visualize the peripheral nerves. In this study, the application value of 3D DW-SSFP brachial plexus imaging in the diagnosis of brachial plexus injury (BPI) was investigated. 33 patients with BPI were prospectively examined using 3D DW-SSFP MR...
متن کاملNerve grafting in brachial plexus injuries. Results of free grafts in 90 patients.
We have assessed the efficacy of free nerve grafts in 90 cases of brachial plexus injury. Relatively good recovery of the elbow flexor and extensor muscles and of those of the shoulder girdle was found but recovery of the flexors and extensors of the forearm and of the intrinsic muscles of the hand was extremely poor. Poor results were found when spinal nerve roots seemed normal to the touch an...
