Two-Year Outcome of a Randomized Trial Comparing Second-Generation Drug-Eluting Stents Using Biodegradable or Durable Polymer Recentnetworkmeta-analyseshave raisedconcerns about the safety of biodegradable polymerdrug-eluting stents (BP-DES) compared with durable polymer everolimus-eluting stents (DP-EES).1-3 The NOBORI Biolimus-Eluting vs XIENCE/ PROMUSEverolimus-ElutingStentTrial (NEXT) is a98-center, randomized, open-label, noninferiority trial evaluating theefficacy and safety of biodegradable polymer biolimus-eluting stents (BP-BES) vs DP-EES.4 Theprimary efficacyoutcomeof target-lesion revascularization (TLR) at 1 year demonstratednoninferiority of BP-BES comparedwithDP-EES.4 Theprimary safety outcome, a composite of death and myocardial infarction (MI), will be reported at 3 years. However, because the advantages ofBP-BES could emerge beyond 1 year when polymer has fully degraded, we report the interim 2-year results.

متن کاملEfficacy and Safety of Biodegradable Polymer Biolimus-Eluting Stents versus Durable Polymer Drug-Eluting Stents: A Meta-Analysis
BACKGROUNDS Drug-eluting stents (DES) with biodegradable polymers have been developed to address the risk of thrombosis associated with first-generation DES. We aimed to determine the efficacy and safety of biodegradable polymer biolimus-eluting stents (BES) versus durable polymer DES. METHODS Systematic database searches of MEDLINE (1950 to June 2013), EMBASE (1966 to June 2013), the Cochran...
متن کاملLong-term efficacy and safety of biodegradable-polymer biolimus-eluting stents: main results of the Basel Stent Kosten-Effektivitäts Trial-PROspective Validation Examination II (BASKET-PROVE II), a randomized, controlled noninferiority 2-year outcome trial.
BACKGROUND Biodegradable-polymer drug-eluting stents (BP-DES) were developed to be as effective as second-generation durable-polymer drug-eluting stents (DP-DES) and as safe >1 year as bare-metal stents (BMS). Thus, very late stent thrombosis (VLST) attributable to durable polymers should no longer appear. METHODS AND RESULTS To address these early and late aspects, 2291 patients presenting w...
متن کاملRandomized clinical trial comparing abluminal biodegradable polymer sirolimus-eluting stents with durable polymer sirolimus-eluting stents
BACKGROUND The biodegradable polymer drug-eluting stents (DES) were developed to improve vascular healing. However, further data and longer-term follow-up are needed to confirm safety and efficacy of these stents. This randomized clinical trial aimed to compare safety and efficacy of 2 sirolimus-eluting stents (SES): Cordimax-a novel abluminal biodegradable polymer SES and Cypher Select-a durab...
