The Role of Autobiographical Memories in Story Comprehension
نویسندگان
چکیده
Some researchers indicated that situation models resemble autobiographical memory (AbM). For example, Zwaan & Radvansky (1998) pointed “The dimensions of time, space, and protagonist are also featured in accounts of autobiographical memory of directly experienced events” by quoted Wagenaar (1986). Also, Radvansky, Copeland & Zwaan (2005) investigated AbM using memories of fictional autobiographic novel as vicarious AbM. So, there are many evidences of the familiar relationship of situation models and AbM. Most studies, however, have focused on AbM rather than situation models. In this study, we focused situation model rather than AbM, and then research the role of AbM in constructing situation models exploratory and empirically.

However, temporally extended structures of autobiographical memory, like lifetime periods and mini-narratives (here termed chapters), may also play a central role in the organisation of the life story. Here, 30 elderly participants were asked to tell their life story in a free format. The life stories were div...
متن کاملA Basic-Systems Approach to Autobiographical Memory
Memory for complex everyday events involving vision, hearing, smell, emotion, narrative, and language cannot be understood without considering the properties of the separate systems that process and store each of these forms of information. Using this premise as a starting point, my colleagues and I found that visual memory plays a central role in autobiographical memory: The strength of recoll...

Each rated their three most-stressful, three most-positive, seven most-important and 15 word-cued autobiograp...
متن کاملNew Episodic Learning Interferes with the Reconsolidation of Autobiographical Memories
It is commonly assumed that, with time, an initially labile memory is transformed into a permanent one via a process of consolidation. Yet, recent evidence indicates that memories can return to a fragile state again when reactivated, requiring a period of reconsolidation. In the study described here, we found that participants who memorized a story immediately after they had recalled neutral an...
