چکیده
835 EMG Values during REM Sleep for RBD Diagnosis—Frauscher et al INTRODUCTION Rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder (RBD) is a parasomnia characterized by excessive electromyographic (EMG) activity during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep and acting out of dreams, leading to injurious or potentially injurious behaviors to the patient or bedmate.1,2 Available data indicate that in many patients, idiopathic RBD (iRBD) is an early sign of an evolving synucleinopathy such as Parkinson disease (PD).3-6 In addition, in patients with established neurodegenerative disorders such as PD, recognition of RBD is important because it may require specific treatment.2 A correct diagnosis of RBD is therefore of the utmost importance. Only video-polysomnography (PSG) allows for a sufficiently sensitive and specific diagnosis of RBD. Sleep history alone NORMATIVE REM SLEEP EMG VALUES FOR THE DIAGNOSIS OF RBD

REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD)
Background. REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) is parasomnia characterized by dream enactment and enabled by disruption of physiologicalmuscle atonia during REM sleep. Over the past few years, diagnostic criteria and the methods used to confirm diagnosis have been updated. Objective. In this review article, the current knowledge regarding RBD diagnosis and treatment is presented. Methods. A sele...

REM SLEEP BEHAVIOR DISORDER (RBD) AFFECTS ABOUT 0.4% OF ADULTS, 0.5% OF OLDER ADULTS, 33% OF PATIENTS WITH NEWLY DIAGNOSED PARKINSON DISEASE, and 90% of patients with multiple system atrophy.1 Consequences can include injury to the patient, threats to the safety of a bed partner, and inability to share a bed with a partner. Diagnosis is important because the condition responds well to treatment...
متن کاملIntroduction Atonia of Skeletal Muscles Is One of the Cardinal Features of Rapid Eye Movement
ATONIA OF SKELETAL MUSCLES IS ONE OF THE CARDINAL FEATURES OF RAPID EYE MOVEMENT (REM) SLEEP. Superimposed on this atonia is intermittent activity in both axial and limb muscles. REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) is characterized by excessive motor activity during REM sleep with acting out of dreams.1 The diagnosis of RBD is made by the appearance of elevated submental electromyogram (EMG) tone...

STUDY OBJECTIVES The aim of our study was to determine which muscle or combination of muscles (either axial or limb muscles, lower or upper limb muscles, or proximal or distal limb muscles) provides the highest rates of rapid eye movement (REM) sleep phasic electromyographic (EMG) activity seen in patients with REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD). SETTING Two university hospital sleep disorders...

909 Amelioration of OSA Severity in RBD—Huang et al airway dilator muscle EMG activity at sleep onset15 may cause an individual, who has a more collapsible airway, to develop an obstructive respiratory event. The further reduction of genioglossus activity would explain the increased severity of OSA during normal REM sleep.14 Furthermore, peak and tonic EMG activity in genioglossus has been show...
