Cervical Spine Fracture With Vertebral Artery Dissection.

چکیده
A 51-year-old man presented to a direct-access physical therapy clinic with persistent neck pain for 5 days after a fall in shallow water while surfing. Based on "dangerous mechanism of injury" from the Canadian cervical spine rule as being a high risk factor, the physical therapist ordered radiographs of the cervical spine, which were suggestive of a more serious injury. Computed tomography suggested and magnetic resonance imaging confirmed vertebral artery dissection. J Orthop Sports Phys Ther 2016;46(10):929. doi:10.2519/jospt.2016.0416.

Traumatic vertebral artery dissection and cerebral infarction following head and neck injury with a lucid interval
Cases Two patients with cerebral infarction following head and neck injury who showed a lucid interval are presented. Outcome A 70-year-old male showed infarctions in the cerebellum bilaterally and the right hypothalamus on the sixth day after an injury with no fracture of the cervical spine, and bilateral dissection of the vertebral arteries was diagnosed. A 74-year-old male showed infarctio...
متن کاملDual origin of the vertebral artery mimicking dissection.
Vertebral artery injury may occur at the time of cervical fracture or dislocation. Congenital vertebral artery variations, especially a double vertebral artery origin, may be responsible for angiographic findings that mimic vertebral artery dissection. Two cases of cervical spine fracture with ipsilateral double vertebral artery are presented. Conventional cerebral angiography is the easiest an...
متن کاملDelayed sequelae of vertebral artery dissection and occult cervical fractures.
We report three patients who developed delayed (ie, more than a week after the injury) symptoms of vertebrobasilar ischemia following motor vehicle accidents. The patients all had angiographic evidence of vertebral artery dissection and, upon further evaluation, occult fractures of the second cervical vertebra that were not detected by simple cervical spine radiography and required polytomograp...
متن کاملDelayed Vertebral Artery Dissection after Posterior Cervical Fusion with Traumatic Cervical Instability: A Case Report
Vascular injury presented immediately after the penetration, but delayed onset of vascular symptom caused by an embolism or vessel dissection after cervical fusion or traumatic event is extremely rare. We present a case of a 56-year-old woman who underwent an operation for cervical fusion for type II Odontoid process fracture. She presented symptoms of seizure with hemiparesis in 6 days after t...
متن کاملHow do we Handle Traumatic Pediatric Carotid Artery Dissection?
Head and neck trauma in pediatric population differs from adult cases due to the immature cranio-cervical stability resulting from the weak neck musculature and large head to neck proportion. These cases also have drawn attention due to concomitant severe damage to the regional vascular structures such as carotid artery [1,2]. In some cases, especially with skull base fractures and cervical ver...
