Electrodynamic model connecting superconductor response to magnetic field and to rotation

چکیده
Theory and experiment on the London moment is reviewed. A simple mathematical model is motivated and then used to study the responses of a spherical superconductor to an external field and to rotation. It reveals a connection between perfect diamagnetism (Meissner effect) and the London moment. In the model neither of these are exact but the deviation from B = 0 internal field in the former and from B = (2mc/e) in the latter case is described by the same dimensionless parameter. Apart from its pedagogical value the model might throw some light on the controversy surrounding the correction to the London moment.

متن کاملOn the role of superconducting shields for propellantless propulsion
We critically review our recent claims that it is possible to obtain a propellantless propulsion device similar to electrodynamic tethers by means of a closed wire partially shielded by a superconductor from the outer magnetic field. We find that such a device is not possible as it violates basic physical laws. Furthermore, we show what is the correct local picture for the currents distribution...
متن کاملA Rotating Holographic Superconductor
In this paper we initiate the study of SSB in 3+ 1 dimensional rotating, charged, asymptotically AdS black holes. The theory living on their boundary, R× S, has the interpretation of a 2 + 1 dimensional rotating holographic superconductor. We study the appearance of a marginal mode of the condensate as the temperature is decreased. We find that the transition temperature depends on the rotation...
متن کاملMixed-state penetration depths in s-wave and d-wave superconductors
We report on a microscopic calculation of the current and magnetic field distribution in the mixed state of model s-wave and d-wave superconductors. For the d-wave case, we find that corrections to London theory are important at fields small compared to Hc2. The field distribution is influenced by both superfluid-velocity dependence and non-locality in the current response function of the mixed...

The effect of magnetic field on an incompressible (Kuvshiniski-Type) viscoelastic rotating fluid heated from below in porous medium is considered. For the case of stationary convection, magnetic field and medium permeability have both stabilizing and destabilizing effect on the thermal convection under some conditions whereas rotation has a stabilizing effect on the thermal convection. In the...
