Loss of Lipid during Fixation for Electron Microscopy
نویسندگان
چکیده
For many years it has been assumed tacitly that lipids and proteins are retained during the process of fixation by various heavy metals. Experimental evidence documenting this assumption has been sparse but recent studies by Korn and Weisman (1) show that varying amounts of neutral lipids and phospholipids are lost from amebae during fixation for electron microscopy. Stein and Stein 1 also have reported marked lipid losses from hepatic tissue during preparation for electron

Preservation of the Lipids of the Human Erythrocyte Stroma during Fixation and Dehydration for Electron Microscopy
Recent reports of lipid and/or protein losses from biological material during fixation processes (Luft and Wood, 1963; Ashworth et al., 1966; Korn and Weisman, 1966; Morgan and Huber, 1967; Stein and Stein, 1967 a, b, 1968; Buschmann and Taylor, 1968; Ongun et al., 1968) emphasize the necessity for basing the interpretation of electron micrographs upon knowledge of the final composition of the ...
متن کاملLoss of Absorbed Lipid during Fixation and Dehydration of Jejunal Mucosa
No neutral lipid, but nearly all the phospholipid, was retained in Acanthamoebae when this organism was fixed in osmium tetroxide and dehydrated with ethanol. If applicable to intestinal mucosa, this observation of Korn and Weisman's (I) might disturb electron microscopists striving to interpret morphological events during fat absorption. Three other groups of investigators have commented on th...
متن کاملStudies of the Interaction of Cardiac Lipid Droplets with Mitochondria Using Electron Microscopy
In the United States and many developed countries, obesity is a rising health problem. Obesity is the result of an imbalance in lipid homeostasis and is evidenced by the excessive accumulation of cytoplasmic lipid droplets (CLDs) in cardiac muscles. The CLD is a dynamic organelle that functions in maintaining cellular lipid storage and metabolism [1]. It interacts with various cell organelles s...
متن کاملRisk factors of loss reduction after percutaneous fixation in supracondylar humerus in pediatric: a descriptive-analytical study
Background & Aims: supracondylar humerus fracture is one of the most common pediatric elbow fractures accounting for about 16% of the pediatric fractures. Loss of reduction is one of the complications after closed and percutaneous fixation. This research is aimed to investigate the factors involved in the loss of reduction. Method: In this descriptive study, the children with supracondylar hum...
