* Department of Electrical Engineering, Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas 77843-3128 Summary– The use of Global Positioning System (GPS) of satellites has allowed the synchronization of voltage and current measurements from a wide–area power system. Using raw samples of voltage and current from the two ends of a transmission line, algorithms for fault analysis and fault location have been developed at TAMU. In this paper, a brief review of those techniques is provided. The fault location algorithm that has been developed is capable of handling system conditions like changing fault resistance, mutual coupling and multi– terminal lines. The fault location algorithm is briefly explained, and some results from testing the algorithm on an EMTP model of a power system are provided. Some of the issues involved in implementing the algorithm in the field are also discussed.

Fault Location on Compensated Transmission Lines without Current Measurement

This paper presents a novel fault location method for series compensated transmission lines. It is established based on synchronized voltages sampling and Thevenin impedance from both ends of series compensated transmission line. The method is based on the use of phasor measurement units (PMU) technology which is aimed to be independent of current measurements, fault type, fault resistance, fau...

الگوریتم جامعی برای مکان یابی خطا در خطوط انتقال دو مداره و چند پایانه ای (بیش از سه پایانه) مبتنی بر داده های PMU

A new PMU-based fault detection/location algorithm for multi-terminal transmission lines is proposed in this paper, which works on the basis of synchronized voltage and current phasors received from PMUs installed in various terminals. The Clark transform (for transposed transmission lines), Eigen-values and eigenvectors theory (for un-transposed ones) are used to decouple 3-phase differential ...

Optimal Current Meter Placement for Accurate Fault Location Purpose using Dynamic Time Warping

This paper presents a fault location technique for transmission lines with minimum current measurement. This algorithm investigates proper current ratios for fault location problem based on thevenin theory in faulty power networks and calculation of short circuit currents in each branch. These current ratios are extracted regarding lowest sensitivity on thevenin impedance variations of the netw...

An Intelligent Machine Learning-Based Protection of AC Microgrids Using Dynamic Mode Decomposition

An intelligent strategy for the protection of AC microgrids is presented in this paper. This method was halving to an initial signal processing step and a machine learning-based forecasting step. The initial stage investigates currents and voltages with a window-based approach based on the dynamic decomposition method (DDM) and then involves the norms of the signals to the resultant DDM data. T...
