The Dynamic And-Or Quorum System

چکیده
We investigate issues related to the probe complexity of the And-Or quorum system and its implementation in a dynamic environment. Our contribution is twofold: We first analyze the algorithmic probe complexity of the And-Or quorum system, and present two optimal algorithms. The first is a non-adaptive algorithm with O( √ n log n) probe complexity, which matches a known lower bound. The second is an adaptive algorithm with a probe complexity that is linear in the cardinality of a quorum set (O( √ n)), and requires at most O(log log n) rounds. To the best of our knowledge, all other adaptive algorithms with same parameters (load and probe complexity) require θ( √ n) rounds. Our second contribution is presenting the ‘dynamic And-Or’ quorum system an adaptation of the above quorum system to a dynamic environment, where processors join and leave the network. It is based on a dynamic overlay network that emulates the De-Bruijn network and maintains the good properties of the quorum system(e.g.,load and availability). The algorithms suggested for the maintenance of these dynamic data structures are strongly coupled with the dynamic overlay network. This fact enables the use of gossip protocols which saves in message complexity and keeps the protocols simple and local. All these qualities make the ‘dynamic And-Or’ an excellent candidate for an implementation of

Quorum Sensing in Microbial Virulence
Cell-to cell communication occurs via a signaling pathway referred to as quorum sensing. There are four main types of these systems according to the chemical nature of signal molecules used by microorganisms to elicit expression of target genes in response to environmental stimuli or need of microbial communities. Type I system acts by using acyl homoserine lactones as signals to trigger the ex...

Objective(s): Honey’s ability to kill microorganisms and even eradication of chronic infections with drug-resistant pathogens has been documented by numerous studies. The present study is focused on the action of honey in its sub-inhibitory levels to impact on the pathogens coordinated behaviors rather than killing them. Materials and Methods:</strong...
متن کاملFault-Tolerant Storage and Quorum Systems for Dynamic Environments M.Sc. Thesis
We deal with storage systems and quorum systems for a dynamic environment where servers may join and leave the system. We suggest a file storage system construction based on the ‘And-Or’ quorum system, that has a O( √ n) write complexity, O( √ n log n) read complexity and a constant data blowup-ratio, where n represents the number of processors in the network. Our construction is fault-tolerant...

Background & Aims: Quorum Sensing is a mechanism by which orchestrate the expression of many genes in bacteria. Therefore, any interference with the system will inhibit bacterial infections. The principal purpose of the research was to evaluate the potential of anti-quorum sensing of Rosa damascena and Stevia rebaudiana against Staphylococcus aureus. Materials & Methods: Ten isolates of Staphy...
متن کاملTimed Quorum System for Large-Scale and Dynamic Environments
This paper presents Timed Quorum System (TQS), a new quorum system especially suited for large-scale and dynamic systems. TQS requires that two quorums intersect with high probability if they are used in the same small period of time. It proposed an algorithm that implements TQS and that verifies probabilistic atomicity: a consistency criterion that requires each operation to respect atomicity ...
