Infective endocarditis mimics ANCA associated glomerulonephritis
Background: Sub-acute bacterial endocarditis (SBE) rarely presents with features of a small vessel vasculitis. Patients with SBE can also develop multiple serological abnormalities including ANCA. In this report, we present a case of infective endocarditis mimicked ANCA associated glomerulonephritis.Case presentation: A 57-year old male with a clinical picture of rapidly progressive renal failu...
متن کاملcANCA-associated aortitis
Anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis is traditionally viewed as a small vessel disease. We report a patient with cANCA antibodies directed against proteinase-3 with asymptomatic aortic involvement, in combination with diffuse alveolar haemorrhage and pauci-immune, necrotizing crescentic glomerulonephritis. A review of the literature is discussed.
متن کاملBartonella Henselae endocarditis mimicking ANCA associated vasculitis
Bartonella can cause a damaging endocarditis and patients typically need valve replacement. Infective endocarditis (IE) and small vessel vasculitis (SVV) can have similar clinical features and the presence of ANCA can be misleading and it is critical to differentiate between IE and SVV since their treatment are vastly different.
متن کاملHistory, Classification and Pathophysiology of Small Vessel Vasculitis
Systemic vasculitides are a heterogenous group of disorders characterized by destructive inflammation and fibrinoid necrosis of the blood vessel wall, blood vessel occlusion and ischemia of surrounding tissue. Typical clinical manifestations vary depending on the size of the affected blood vessels, and include fever, weight loss, malaise, arthralgias and arthritis. Vasculitides can be idiopathi...
متن کاملNecrotizing ANCA-Positive Glomerulonephritis Secondary to Culture-Negative Endocarditis
Infective endocarditis (IE) and small-vessel vasculitis may have similar clinical features, including glomerulonephritis. Furthermore the association between IE and ANCA positivity is well documented, making differential diagnosis between IE- and ANCA-associated vasculitis particularly difficult, especially in case of culture-negative IE. We report on one patient with glomerulonephritis seconda...
