Optical Microscope Study of the y ( FCC ) we ( HC ) Martensitic Transformation of a Fe - 16 % Mn - 9 % Cr - 5 % Si - 4 % Ni Shape Memory Alloy

چکیده
The y(FCC)tt&(HC) transformation is studied by light optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy in a polycrystalline Fe-Mn-Si-Cr-Ni shape memory alloy. Thermal and stress-induced martensites are both studied to point out differences. A color etching method permitted to clearly observe morphological evolutions during the transformation and its reversion. Deformations of a golden microgrid deposed on austenitic samples are observed by SEM during the transformation. This technic has led to point out microscopic differences concerning the two kinds of martensite. SEM results are used to explain light optical microscopy observations.

Production and Characterization of Stainless Steel Based Fe-Cr-Ni-Mn-Si(-CO) Shape Memory Alloys
It is well known that the Fe based alloys can exhibit shape memory effect due to the y to E martensitic transformation. The effect may not be as striking as observed in the NiTi alloy but it might become attractive fkom the practical point of view. In this work, two compositions of Fe-Cr-Ni-Mn-Si(-Co) stainless steel based shape memory alloy, prepared by the VIM technique, will be presented. Th...

For Fe-Mn-Si-Cr-Ni shape memory alloys, it was previously found by HREM study that the formation of the nanometric lamella structures consisting of f.c.c. and h.c.p. phase is very important to exhibit good shape memory effect. In the present work, the formation process of such lamella structures has been studied in detail. The results are as follows. The transformation is initiated by random fo...
متن کاملEffect of Amount of Deformation on the Martensitic Transformation and Shape Memory Effect in Fe-Mn-Si based Shape Memory Steel
The effect of amount of deformation on the martensitic transformation and shape memory effect in a Fe-16Mn-5Si-9Cr-4Ni alloy is studied. It is found that both 6and a'martensite are induced by deformation. With increasing amount of deformation, y+~-nx' transformation is greatly enhanced. the highest shape memory strain 3 3% is reached when the amount of deformation is about 5%.
متن کاملThe Magnetic Aspects of the γ-α and γ- Martensitic Transformations in Fe-Mn Alloys
Fe,,Mn, alloys undergo fcc-bcc (y-a) and fcc-hcp (y-E) transformations for about 0<x<10 at % and 15<x<30 at% respectively. The product phase in the region 10<x<15 at. % is mixed a+€ and ~ + y . The y-a transformation in Fe-Mn is similar to that in Fe-rich Fe-Ni alloys where the transformation takes place between a high-temperature dense fcc structure and a lowtemperature more open bcc structure...
متن کاملSimultaneous enhancement of magnetic and mechanical properties in Ni-Mn-Sn alloy by Fe doping
Both magnetic-field-induced reverse martensitic transformation (MFIRMT) and mechanical properties are crucial for application of Ni-Mn-Sn magnetic shape memory alloys. Here, we demonstrate that substitution of Fe for Ni can simultaneously enhance the MFIRMT and mechanical properties of Ni-Mn-Sn, which are advantageous for its applications. The austenite in Ni44Fe6Mn39Sn11 shows the typical ferr...
