Toward integrating IP multicasting in internet network management protocols

چکیده
Supporting multi-point group communications in network management platforms is essential for improving scalability and responsiveness of management applications. With the deployment of IP multicasting as the standard infrastructure for multi-point group communications in the Internet, the integration of IP multicasting in SNMP becomes signi cantly important to achieve these goals. This paper presents a highly exible, e cient and easy-to-integrate framework for integrating IP Multicast in standard SNMP agents. The proposed framework enables managers to re-con gure the agents' group membership and the communication model (e.g., one-to-many, many-to-one and many-to-many) dynamically based on the application requirements. This framework exploits the advantages of IP multicasting without requiring any signi cant changes or performance overhead in the protocol or the agent architecture. The resulting framework can be easily adopted by exiting SNMP agents of various network management platforms. Although the other approaches provide group communications through broker agents in the management platform, integrating IP multicasting in SNMP agents is more e cient and a simpler approach. Our ultimate goal is to promote the integration of IP multicasting as a standard service in SNMP agents.

In this thesis, we will present solutions for end users on how to profit from efficient data transmission and dissemination using multicasting with Quality of Service (QoS) support. Multicasting is one of the most efficient mechanisms to distribute data from one sender to multiple receivers concurrently. Since IP Multicasting is not widely deployed in the Internet today, Overlay Multicast has b...

Explicit routing in MPLS is utilized in traffic engineering to maximize the operational network performance and to provide Quality of Service (QoS). However, difficulties arise while integrating native IP multicasting with MPLS traffic engineering, such as point-to-multipoint or multipoint-to-multipoint LSPs layout design and traffic aggregation. In this paper, we have proposed an edge router m...

The Internet Engineering Taskforce (IETF) Mobile IP protocol is considered to have limitations in its capability to handle large numbers of Mobile Stations moving fast between different radio cells, a process called Handoff. The Handoff frequency should typically not exceed once a second. However, Mobile IP is well suited for interconnecting disparate cellular networks effectively providing glo...
