چکیده

We present a method for a complete characterization of a femtosecond ultraviolet pulse when a fundamental near-infrared beam is also available. Our approach relies on generation of second harmonic from the pre-characterized fundamental, which serves as a reference against which an unknown pulse is measured using spectral interference (SI). The characterization apparatus is a modified second harmonic frequency resolved optical gating setup which additionally allows for taking SI spectrum. The presented method is linear in the unknown field, simple and sensitive. We checked its accuracy using test pulses generated in a thick nonlinear crystal, demonstrating the ability to measure the phase in a broad spectral range, down to 0.1% peak spectral intensity as well as retrieving π leaps in the spectral phase. Self-referenced spectral interferometry for ultrashort infrared pulse characterization.

We demonstrate for the first time (to our knowledge) characterization of ultrashort IR pulses by self-referenced spectral interferometry. Both sub-55-fs pulses from 1.4 μm to 2 μm and broadband 2.5-cycle pulses at 1.65 μm (13 fs FWHM) are characterized.

Implementation of electro-optic spectral shearing interferometry for ultrashort pulse characterization.

Electro-optic spectral shearing interferometry is implemented for the highly sensitive characterization of ultrashort pulses from a free-running source. A simple phase-locked-loop clock recovery circuit is used to extract the high-frequency microwave clock signal to drive the phase modulator for spectral shearing. We demonstrate accurate full temporal characterization of 200-fs pulses from an o...

Measurement of the intensity and phase of ultraweak, ultrashort laser pulses.

We show that frequency-resolved optical gating combined with spectral interferometry yields an extremely sensitive and general method for temporal characterization of nearly arbitrarily weak ultrashort pulses even when the reference pulses is not transform limited. We experimentally demonstrate measurement of the full time-dependent intensity and phase of a train of pulses with an average energ...

Real-time SPIDER: ultrashort pulse characterization at 20 Hz.

We present an implementation of spectral phase interferometry for direct electric-field reconstruction (SPIDER) which characterizes ultrashort optical pulses in the spectral or temporal domain at a rate of 20 Hz. This apparatus was used in real-time as a diagnostic tool to optimize our 1 kHz regeneratively amplified laser system for the shortest duration pulses.

Characterization of the polarization state of weak ultrashort coherent signals by dual-channel spectral interferometry.

We demonstrate that dual-channel spectral interferometry in conjunction with a well-characterized reference pulse can be used to time resolve the polarization state of extremely weak ultrashort coherent signals from linear-and nonlinear-optical experiments by measuring the intensity and the phase of two orthogonal polarization components. In this way the signal is completely characterized.
