چکیده

Studies involving different cattle genetic types evaluated under temperate and subtropical environmental conditions have revealed important genotype × environment interactions for most preweaning traits. A longterm study involving different lines of Hereford cattle evaluated under temperate (Miles City, MT) and subtropical (Brooksville, FL) environments revealed important genotype × environment interactions for most measures of preweaning productivity (9, 10, 15). In a study involving F1 Bos indicus × Bos taurus and F1 Bos taurus × Bos taurus females evaluated in temperate (Clay Center, NE) and subtropical (Brooksville, FL) environments, the genotype × environment interaction was significant for most measures of preweaning productivity (22). The importance of genotype × environment interactions for situations involving only subtropical locations is less well established. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the importance of genotype × environment interaction for preweaning traits of cattle varying in percentage Brahman breeding at two subtropical locations in the southern region.

Records of birth weight (BW), weaning weight (WW) and condition score (CS) from 1,467 Brahman and Brahman X Angus crossbred calves from Brahman and crossbred Brahman sires and Brahman, crossbred Brahman and Angus dams were collected at the Subtropical Agricultural Research Station, Brooksville, Florida, from 1971 to 1982. DIRECT AND MATERNAL GENETIC EFFECTS DUE TO THE INTRODUCTION OF BOS TAURUS ALLELES INTO BRAHMAN CAlTLE IN FLORIDA:

Pregnancy rate, calf survival rate to weaning and calf age at weaning of several types of crossbred cows (2/3 or more Brahman) were compared to those of straightbred Brahman and Angus cows over a 1 2 9 period at Subtropical Agricultural Research Station near Brooksville, FL. The purpose of this study was to determine the relative importance of additive vs nonadditive genetic effects on reproduc...

Genetic effects for reproductive traits in beef cattle and predicted performance.

Reproductive data were collected on 4,595 cow exposures and subsequent calvings over four generations in a rotational crossbreeding study involving Angus, Brahman, Charolais and Hereford breeds. Direct and maternal additive (Ig and Mg) and nonadditive (Ih and Mh) genetic effects were estimated for calving rate, calf survival, weaning rate, calving assistance and calf birth date. Genetic effects...

Relationship of milk yield and quality to preweaning gain of calves from Angus, Brahman and reciprocal-cross cows on different forage systems.

Interactions of the regression of preweaning ADG on dam milk yield and quality with breed group and forage environment were evaluated in a two-phase study. Phase I consisted of milk yield and quality and calf gain records from 1989 to 1991 for purebred Angus (n = 64) and Brahman (n = 62) cows mated to sires of both breeds. Phase II consisted of milk yield and quality and calf gain records from ...

Cow-calf and feedlot performances of Brahman-derivative breeds.

A study was conducted to compare Brangus, Beefmaster, Gelbray, and Simbrah breed influences for economically important traits. Brangus (9), Beefmaster (12), Gelbray (10), and Simbrah (7) sires were used in purebred and crossbred (Brahman x Hereford F1 cows) matings to generate calves (326) in eight breed groups. Beefmaster cows were of similar size (448 kg), Brangus and Gelbray cows were 11% he...
