چکیده

In this paper, we present a new architecture for an electronic implementation of an ATM switch using a technique from spread spectrum communications known as Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA). In a CDMA-based ATM switch, each output port is assigned a unique code word from an orthogonal set of code words. Each input data stream is encoded using the code word corresponding to its intended destination output port. Coded data from different input ports are then added together and broadcast to all of the output ports. Each output port is able to select its appropriate data stream using coding theory. In this way, complex internal routing within the switching fabric is avoided. In our basic method, the input data are expanded by a factor equal to the number of bits in a code word. A second, more sophisticated method called exponential extension is also introduced to reduce the data expansion rate so that more efficient hardware implementations can be obtained.

Quality of Service for Broadband Satellite Internet - Atm and Ip Services

The current Internet infrastructure must be architected to handle future media-rich, and content rich applications. The success of applications such as video-on-demand, multicast and content distribution depends on Quality of Service and bandwidth guarantees. Over the years, the Internet has encompassed many changes in traffic profiles and applications, in bandwidths and utilization, but the fu...

Learning automata-based bus arbitration for shared-medium ATM switches

Although new high-bandwidth network technologies are being introduced and widely deployed, asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) is still considered one of the most important network technologies currently in use. A number of ATM switch architectures have been proposed in the literature. However, industry has shown that is better to use the well-known shared-medium technique in the design of these A...

A Combined Frequency and Time Based Channel Reuse Partitioning Multiple Access Technique for Indoor Wireless ATM Networks

This paper describes a multiple access technique suitable for indoor wireless ATM networks that exploits both frequency division and time division techniques for channel re-use (i.e. FDMA/TDMA). The novel feature of the proposed technique is that co-ordinated, prioritised TDMA is supported for clusters of Access Point’s (AP’s) using measurement based time slot assignments. This has the advantag...
