Real Time Animation of Virtual Humans: A Trade-off Between Naturalness and Control
نویسندگان
چکیده
Virtual humans are employed in many interactive applications using 3D virtual environments, including (serious) games. The motion of such virtual humans should look realistic (or ‘natural’) and allow interaction with the surroundings and other (virtual) humans. Current animation techniques differ in the trade-off they offer between motion naturalness and the control that can be exerted over the motion. We show mechanisms to parametrize, combine (on different body parts) and concatenate motions generated by different animation techniques. We discuss several aspects of motion naturalness and show how it can be evaluated. We conclude by showing the promise of combinations of different animation paradigms to enhance both naturalness and control.

Adaptation of virtual human animation and representation for MPEG
While level of detail (LoD) methods for the representation of 3D models are efficient and established tools to manage the trade-off between speed and quality of the rendering, LoD for animation has not yet been intensively studied by the community, and especially virtual humans animation has not been focused in the past. Animation, a major step for immersive and credible virtual environments, i...

Virtual humans are employed in many interactive applications, including (serious) games. Their motion should be natural and allow interaction with its surroundings and other (virtual) humans in real time. Physical controllers offer physical realism and (physical) interaction with the environment. Because they typically act on a selected set of joints, it is hard to evaluate their naturalness in...
متن کاملAn Animation Framework for Continuous Interaction with Reactive Virtual Humans
We present a complete framework for animation of Reactive Virtual Humans that offers a mixed animation paradigm: control of different body parts switches between keyframe animation, procedural animation and physical simulation, depending on the requirements of the moment. This framework implements novel techniques to support real-time continuous interaction. It is demonstrated on our interactiv...

In this paper, we present a genetic algorithm (GA) for optimization of a multi-mode resource constrained time cost trade off (MRCTCT) problem. The proposed GA, each activity has several operational modes and each mode identifies a possible executive time and cost of the activity. Beyond earlier studies on time-cost trade-off problem, in MRCTCT problem, resource requirements of each execution mo...
