Photoresponse Mechanism of Superconducting MgB2

چکیده
The recent discovery of superconductivity in MgB2, with its BCS-like Cooper pairing mechanism and the 40-K critical temperature, and the demonstration of efficient single-optical-photon detection in superconducting NbN nanowire meanders inspired an interest in the development of superconducting radiation detectors based on MgB2. We report the results of our experimental and theoretical studies of a photoresponse mechanism in superconducting MgB2 thin films and microbridges. We demonstrate that despite the two-gap nature of this material, the nonequilibrium superconducting recovery dynamics in MgB2 is similar to conventional one-gap, both lowand high-temperature superconductors and is governed by quasiparticle recombination, limited by the phonon bottleneck mechanism. Our measured 100-ps-wide responses in MgB2 superconducting microbridges, operated at temperatures above 20 K, make this material promising for superconducting photodetector applications.

Fabrication and femtosecond photoresponse studies of MgB2 superconducting thin films
We present fabrication and optical time-resolved photoresponse characterization of MgB2 superconducting thin films. The films were prepared on crystalline and flexible plastic substrates by vacuum co-deposition of B and Mg precursors and high-temperature annealing in an Ar or vacuum atmosphere. The post-annealed films exhibited very smooth surfaces and amorphous structures with nanocrystal incl...

MgB2 wire and tape were prepared using the powder in tube and reaction in-situ technique. All samples were characterized using the XRD, SEM, TEM, as well as transport and magnetic measurements. High transport and magnetic critical current density values have been obtained for metal-clad wires and tapes. Different sheath materials have been examined, but Fe appears to be the best sheath for MgB...

The newly discovered 39-K superconductor MgB2 holds great promise for superconducting electronics. Like the conventional superconductor Nb, MgB2 is a phonon-mediated superconductor, with a relatively long coherence length. These properties make the prospect of fabricating reproducible uniform Josephson junctions, the fundamental element of superconducting circuits, much more favourable for MgB2...

Controlled chemical doping of magnesium diboride (MgB2) has been shown to substantially improve its superconducting properties to the levels required for high field magnets, but the doping is difficult to accomplish through the usual route of solid state reaction and diffusion. Further, superconducting cables of MgB2 are difficult to fabricate because of the friable nature of the material. In t...
متن کاملEffects of the sintering temperature on the flux-pinning mechanism and the activation energy of malic-acid doped MgB2
The flux-pinning mechanism and activation energy of 10 wt % malic acid-doped MgB2 were investigated by measuring of the critical current density and resistivity as a function of magnetic field and temperature. A crossover field, Bsb, was observed from the single vortex to the small vortex bundle pinning regime. For the sintered sample, the temperature dependence of Bsb(T) at low temperature i...
