Estimation of vocal noise and cycle duration jitter in connected speech

چکیده
The objective is to describe analysis methods that enable tracking vocal dysperiodicities in running speech. Vocal dysperiodicities here refer to deviations from strict periodicity in voiced speech sounds. Two methods are described. They respectively enable the sample-by-sample extraction of vocal noise from the speech signal or the isolation of speech cycles in voiced segments to quantify perturbations of the cycle lengths and amplitudes (i.e. cycle duration jitter and amplitude shimmer). These methods share the property that they are not based on the assumption that the signal is locally periodic and that the average period length is known a priori.

Immediate effects of vocal warm-up exercises on elementary teachers' voice
Introduction: Teachers are a large group of professional voice users who are exposed to many voice problems. Vocal warm-up exercises (VWUE) can prepare the muscles involved in vocalization before teaching and can reduce voice damage in teachers. However, limited studies have examined the effects of VWUE on teachers' voices. Therefore, the present study was conducted to investigate the immediate...
متن کاملVocal Parameters of Adults with Down Syndrome in Zahedan /Iran
Background & Aims: Previous studies have indicated significant differences in vocal parameters between children with Down syndrome and normal children, but there are challenges about these differences. In this study vocal parameters and Maximum Phonation Time (MPT) in adults with Down syndrome have been investigated. Method: This cross-sectional and analytic study was performed on 22 adults wit...
متن کاملThe Study of Vocal Function in Patients With Early Laryngeal Carcinoma After Transoral Laser Microsurgery
Objective Today transoral laser microsurgery is considered as one of the first options to control early laryngeal cancer, and voice disorder is one of the inevitable complications of this therapeutic component. This study aimed to compare the vocal function in patients with early-stage laryngeal cancer following laser surgery with healthy individuals with normal voice quality using acoustic ana...
متن کاملThe Relationship Between Acoustic Characteristics and Personality Dimensions in Patients With Dysphonia
Objectives: Voice is influenced by personality. However, it is still questionable which acoustic features are influenced by personality traits. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between acoustic characteristics and personality dimensions. Methods: Thirty-three participants with dysphonia and 33 participants without dysphonia were recruited to take part in this cross-sectional st...
متن کاملEstimation of vocal noise in running speech by means of bi-directional double linear prediction
The presentation concerns forward and backward double linear prediction of speech with a view to the characterization of vocal noise due to voice disorders. Bi-directional double linear prediction consists in a conventional short-term prediction followed by a distal inter-cycle prediction that enables removing inter-cycle correlations owing to voicing. The long-term prediction is performed forw...
