WKB and MAF quantisation rules for spatially confined quantum mechanical systems

A formalism is developed to obtain the energy eigenvalues of spatially confined quantum mechanical systems in the framework of the usual Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin (WKB) and Modified Airy Function (MAF) methods. To illustrate the working rule, the techniques are applied to 3 different cases, viz. the confined 1-dimensional harmonic and quartic oscillators, and a boxed-in charged particle subject...

Complex WKB Analysis of a PT Symmetric Eigenvalue Problem

The spectra of a particular class of PT symmetric eigenvalue problems has previously been studied, and found to have an extremely rich structure. In this paper we present an explanation for these spectral properties in terms of quantisation conditions obtained from the complex WKB method. In particular, we consider the relation of the quantisation conditions to the reality and positivity proper...

WKB expansion for the angular momentum and the Kepler problem: from the torus quantization to the exact one

We calculate the WKB series for the angular momentum and the non–relativistic 3-dim Kepler problem. This is the first semiclassical treatment of the angular momentum for terms beyond the leading WKB approximation. We explain why the torus quantization (the leading WKB term) of the full problem is exact, even if the individual torus quantization of the angular momentum and of the radial Kepler p...

Efficient and exact maximum likelihood quantisation of genomic features using dynamic programming

An efficient and exact dynamic programming algorithm is introduced to quantise a continuous random variable into a discrete random variable that maximises the likelihood of the quantised probability distribution for the original continuous random variable. Quantisation is often useful before statistical analysis and modelling of large discrete network models from observations of multiple contin...
