Portal Annular Pancreas: An Under-Reported Pancreatic Anomaly
نویسندگان
چکیده
140 Sir, Portal annular pancreas (PAP) is an uncommon and under-recognized congenital anomaly of the pancreas, which mostly remains asymptomatic but can have serious implications if a pancreatic surgery is being contemplated. In contrast to a conventional annular pancreas in which the pancreatic tissue encircles the second part of the duodenum, portal annular pancreas is characterized by encasement of the portal vein or the superior mesenteric vein (SMV) by a rind of pancreatic parenchyma.[1-5]

Portal annular pancreas. A rare variant and a new classification.
CONTEXT Portal annular pancreas is a rare congenital anomaly resulting from fusion of the pancreatic parenchyma around the portal vein/superior mesenteric vein. It is asymptomatic, but could have serious consequences during pancreatic surgery, if unrecognized. We describe a variant of this anomaly encountered during pancreaticoduodenectomy and propose a new classification. CASE REPORT We repo...

BACKGROUND Portal annular pancreas is a rare pancreatic developmental anomaly which is often overlooked at imaging, and often diagnosed retrospectively when it is detected incidentally at the time of surgery. Although the anomaly itself is asymptomatic, it becomes important in cases where pancreatic resection/anastomosis is planned, because of varying ductal anatomy, risk of ductal injury and i...

Portal annular pancreas (PAP) is an asymptomatic congenital pancreas anomaly, in which portal and/or mesenteric veins are encased by pancreas tissue. The aim of the study was to determine the role of PAP in pancreatic surgery as well as its management and potential complication, specifically, postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF).On the basis of a case report, the MEDLINE and ISI Web of Scien...

Portal annular pancreas is a rare pancreatic variant in which the uncinate process of the pancreas extends and fuses to the dorsal surface of the body of the pancreas by surrounding the portal vein. It is asymptomatic, but it can be mistaken for a pancreatic head mass on imaging and could also have serious consequences during pancreatic surgery, if unrecognized. We report this case of a 53-year...
متن کاملA rare congenital anomaly of the pancreas: a cadaveric case report.
CONTEXT The pancreas is formed by ventral and dorsal pancreatic buds which arise from the endodermal lining of the gut. When the duodenum rotates to the right, the ventral pancreatic bud migrates dorsally and finally come and lie below the dorsal pancreatic bud. The developmental errors in the rotation of these components lead to annular pancreas. CASE REPORT We report a rare type of the inco...
