A class of fully second order accurate projection methods for solving the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations

چکیده
In this paper, a continuous projection method is designed and analyzed. The continuous projection method consists of a set of partial differential equations which can be regarded as an approximation of the Navier–Stokes (N–S) equations in each time interval of a given time discretization. The local truncation error (LTE) analysis is applied to the continuous projection methods, which yields a sufficient condition for the continuous projection methods to be temporally second order accurate. Based on this sufficient condition, a fully second order accurate discrete projection method is proposed. A heuristic stability analysis is performed to this projection method showing that the present projection method can be stable. The stability of the present scheme is further verified through numerical experiments. The second order accuracy of the present projection method is confirmed by several numerical test cases. 2004 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved. AMS: 65M06; 76D05; 65M15

A fourth-order approximate projection method for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations on locally-refined periodic domains
In this follow-up of our previous work [Zhang et. al., A fourth-order accurate finitevolume method with structured adaptive mesh refinement for solving the advectiondiffusion equation, SIAM J. Sci. Comput. 34 (2012) B179-B201], the author proposes a high-order semi-implicit method for numerically solving the incompressible NavierStokes equations on locally-refined periodic domains. Fourth-order...
متن کاملOn Error Estimates of the Pressure-correction Projection Methods for the Time-dependent Navier-stokes Equations
In this paper, we present a new pressure-correction projection scheme for solving the time-dependent Navier-Stokes equations, which is based on the Crank-Nicolson extrapolation method in the time discretization. Error estimates for the velocity and the pressure of semidiscretized scheme are derived by interpreting the projection scheme as second-order time discretization of a perturbed system w...
متن کاملHigh-Order Time Stepping for the Incompressible Navier-Stokes Equations
This paper introduces a high-order time stepping technique for solving the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations which, unlike coupled techniques, does not require solving a saddle point problem at each time step and, unlike projection methods, does not produce splitting errors and spurious boundary layers. The technique is a generalization of the artificial compressibility method; it is uncon...
متن کاملAccuracy of Projection Methods for the Incompressible Navier-Stokes Equations
Numerous papers have appeared in the literature over the past thirty years discussing projection-type methods for solving the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. A recurring difficulty encountered is the proper choice of boundary conditions for the auxiliary variables in order to obtain at least second order accuracy in the computed solution. A further issue is the formula for the pressure ...
متن کاملA second order accurate projection method for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations on non-graded adaptive grids
We present an unconditionally stable second order accurate projection method for the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations on non-graded adaptive Cartesian grids. We employ quadtree and octree data structures as an efficient means to represent the grid. We use the supra-convergent Poisson solver of [C.-H. Min, F. Gibou, H. Ceniceros, A supra-convergent finite difference scheme for the variable...
