Hand-arm Frequency-weighted Vibration Effects on Tactility

چکیده
This study reports results of an investigation into the short-term effects of power hand tool vibration on deep sense tactile sensitivity. Five subjects operated a simulated hand tool using a 30 s / 30 s work~rest duty cycle. The handle vibrated at 1S0 5349 weighted acceleration of 8 m / s 2, for frequencies of 20 Hz, 80 Hz, and 160 Hz, in three orthognal directions. A no-vibration condition was also included for a control Tactile sensitivity of the distal index finger was measured after 30 minutes using a ridge detection threshold detection task. The average falling ridge threshold increased five times from 0.01 mm for the no-vibration condition to 0.05 mm at 160 Hz, however no rising ridge threshold shifts were observed. Implications for job design and work practices are discussed. RELEVANCE TO INDUSTRY Power hand tool vibration effects on tactility should be considered when performing tactile inspection tasks such as sanding operations and inspecting for rough edges or smoothness. Loss of tactile sensitivity may result in reduced quality and work performance.

Acute effects of vibration from a chipping hammer and a grinder on the hand-arm system.
OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to compare various effects on the hand-arm system of vibration exposure from a chipping hammer and a grinder with the same frequency weighted acceleration. Grip and push forces were measured and monitored during the exposure. The various effects were: muscle activity (measured with surface electrodes), discomfort ratings for different parts of the hand-a...
متن کاملTransmitted vibrations to the wrist and arm of a chainsaw operator: The effect of wood cutting process
Introduction: Due to the non-developed mechanization situation, chainsaw is a widely used tool in Iranian forests. This tool can trigger unwelcome disorders (e.g., white finger syndrome) due to the transmitted vibrations from its handle to the body members. Characterizing these vibrations can result in minimizing the intensity of these disorders. This study aims to investigate the effect of dif...

Introduction: This study aims to determine the amount of hand-arm vibration transmitted from heavy electric destruction tools and the effect of using chisel with different lengths and shapes when demolishing concrete surfaces. Material and Methods: To evaluate the magnitude of hand-arm vibration on the left and right handles of two powerful electric demolition hammers commonly applied in Irani...

Introduction: The workers employed in stone cutting workplace are exposed to hand-arm vibration and its complications. The aim of this study was to evaluate the exposure to hand-arm vibration and its health effects on workers in the stone cutting workshops. Methods: In this descriptive-analytic study, 40 workers of Hamadan city stone cutting who worked with stone cutting machines were examin...
متن کاملRelative Performance of Frequency Weighting W(h) and Candidates for Alternative Frequency Weightings for Predicting the Occurrence of Hand-transmitted Vibration-induced Injuries.
Exposure to hand-transmitted vibration is usually assessed according to International Standard ISO 5349-1:2001 using the frequency weighting W(h). This paper compares eight frequency weightings that might be used to supplement or replace W(h). The comparison is based on a data from two databases, one containing over 7200 measured hand-arm vibration (HAV) spectra from a wide range of industrial ...
