چکیده

THE INITIAL STUDIES BY WILLIS (2, 3) and the more recent work of Zettner and Seligson (i) and others (4-7, 9-11) have proven the utility of atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS) in the clinical laboratory. However, until very recently there has been very little if any published information dealing with normal serum calcium values by atomic absorption spectrophotometry (11). The primary purpose of this study was to establish normal adult calcium levels for our community. Method and Instrumentation

CHANGES IN BLOOD LEVELS OF TRACE ELEMENTS AND ELECTROLYTES IN HYP ERTENSIVE PATIENTS

The involvement of elements in the pathological process of primary hypertension has been established. The serum levels of copper, iron, zinc, sodium, potassium and calcium were studied by atomic absorption spectrophotometery and flame photometry in hypertensive and normal subjects. Serum copper and zinc levels were increased in hypertensive patients (25.5% and 14.7% respectively) as compar...

The determination of metals in blood serum by atomic absorption spectroscopy-I

Abstm&-The celcium content of blood mrum cm be accurately determined on 0.1-0.25 ml samples by atomic absorption measurements in an air-acetylene flame after removal of the proteins by coagulation and centrifuging. A fairly accurate value can be obtained more quickly from direct measurements on serum diluted with water, which may with advantage contain about 1 per cent of the disodium salt of e...

Blood-collection device for trace and ultra-trace metal specimens evaluated.

We evaluated the evacuated phlebotomy tube designed specifically for trace metal analysis by Sherwood Medical Co. Pools of human serum containing known concentrations of aluminum, arsenic, calcium, cadmium, copper, chromium, iron, lead, magnesium, manganese, mercury, selenium, and zinc were exposed to the tube and rubber stopper for defined periods ranging from 5 min to 24 h. Analysis for each ...

Serum levels of Cadmium, Calcium, Lead and Iron in Schizophrenic Patients

The serum concentration of cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), calcium (Ca) and iron (Fe) in 30 schizophrenic patients and 30 normal healthy subjects were analyzed by flame atomic absorption spectroscopy. The concentrations of Cd, Pb and Ca in schizophrenic disorder patients was not increased significantly (P > 0.05) compared to that of the cohort controls. But the concentration of Fe in schizophrenic pat...

Routine measurement of calcium, magnesium, copper, zinc, and iron in urine and serum by inductively coupled plasma emission spectroscopy.

We describe an inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometer that has been adapted to perform routine, simultaneous, direct analyses of calcium, magnesium, copper, zinc, and iron in serum or urine without sample digestion or pretreatment. The system, constructed with inexpensive, readily available components, can analyze 1-mL or smaller samples. Results correlate nearly perfectly with...
