Rethinking Space Representation as Interface Design
نویسنده
چکیده
Virtual reconstructions, that is, 3D digital models of heritage buildings or spaces, have been an integral part of most virtual heritage applications, and are probably among the first things that come to mind when virtual heritage is mentioned – with Quicktime VR as a close second place. Its importance leads to the adoption and development of various technologies in order to obtain faster, bigger and more accurate renderings, preferably in real time. A recent trend has been the use of game engines, for instance, with their powerful graphics acceleration technologies enabling real time navigation in architecture icons such as Wright’s Fallingwater and Mies’ Farnsworth House (http:// archlife.skynetblogs.be/archivemonth/2006-01). However, these virtual environments, as detailed and user-responsive as they might be, lack important properties for heritage representation. Our analysis will address these aspects that should be present in virtual heritage applications, based on comparisons with the concept of history and digital history applications. With these characteristics in mind, the spatial paradigm behind most virtual reconstructions might simply not be the best choice for heritage ABSTRACT

Rethinking Design Process: Using 3D Digital Models as an Interface in Collaborative Session
Th is paper describes a pilot study for an alternative design process by integrating a designer-user collaborative session with digital models. Th e collaborative session took place in a 3D AutoCAD class for a real world project. Th e 3D models served as an interface for designer-user collaboration during the design process. Students not only learned how to use 3D AutoCAD, but also experienced ...

Purpose: The present study aimed to briefly review the current status of the required spaces for the public libraries in the country and identify and redefine the architectural needs of these spaces to achieve a new pattern for contemporary libraries. Method: It is a qualitative research based on grounded theory. The data is collected using library and field methods, analytical analyses, and i...
متن کاملRethinking Interaction Design for Hybrid Urban Space
Hybrid urban space requires significantly different approaches to interaction design. The interaction design challenge will be to include spatial, ethical, personal and wider societal concerns as well as the conditio humana into the design model by understanding human values and needs.

The study of conceptual mappings, including metaphoric mappings, has produced great insights over the past several decades, not only for the study of language but also for the study of such subjects as scientific discovery, design, mathematical thinking, and computer interfaces. This tradition of inquiry is fulfilling its promises, with new findings and new applications all the time. Looking fo...
متن کاملDevelopment and exploration of a timbre space representation of audio
Sound is an important part of the human experience and provides valuable information about the world around us. Auditory human-computer interfaces do not have the same richness of expression and variety as audio in the world, and it has been said that this is primarily due to a lack of reasonable design tools for audio interfaces. There are a number of good guidelines for audio design and a str...
