Reverse Doppler effect in left-handed travelling-wave field-effect transistors

چکیده

We investigate left-handed (LH) travelling-wave fieldeffect transistors (TWFETs) to observe the reverse Doppler effect. Due to the nonlinearity, a TWFET can support shock fronts that can reflect incoming waves. By introducing the composite right/left-handed line structure to a TWFET, it enables to support LH waves. Because the shock front functions as a moving reflection wall to the incoming LH waves, we can expect the reverse Doppler effect to cause in an LH TWFET. After explaining the structure and fundamental properties, we report the reverse Doppler effect observed experimentally in the devise.

Characterization of Two-dimensional Left- Handed Traveling-wave Field-effect Tran- Sistors

The characteristics of a two-dimensional (2D) left-handed traveling-wave field-effect transistor, which is two 2D composite rightand left-handed (CRLH) transmission lines with both passive and active couplings, are discussed for generating non-attenuated waves having left-handedness in 2D. In this study, the design criteria for wave amplification are described, and the results from numerical ca...

Observation of an inverse Doppler shift from left-handed dipolar spin waves

We report the experimental observation of an inverse Doppler shift from the motion of an ordinary solid object. The experiment used left-handed, or backward, spin waves in a magnetic thin film. As a pick-up antenna was moved toward the spin wave source, the measured frequency decreased. In contrast, an increase would be expected in everyday experience as the observer approaches the source. The ...

Observation of the Zero Doppler Effect.

The normal Doppler effect has well-established applications in many areas of science and technology. Recently, a few experimental demonstrations of the inverse Doppler effect have begun to appear in negative-index metamaterials. Here we report an experimental observation of the zero Doppler effect, that is, no frequency shift irrespective of the relative motion between the wave signal source an...

Radiative Properties of Multilayer Thin Films with Positive and Negative Refractive Indexes

(i.e., n = − εμ ). A consequence is certain unusual optical features in negative-index media. The electric field vector E, magnetic field vector H and wave vector k are a left-handed triplet, the basis for calling materials with simultaneously negative ε and μ “left-handed materials” (LHMs). LHMs would have novel optical properties. Light at non-normal incidence would bend to the side opposite ...

Photonic Approach to Making a Left-Handed Material

A new approach to producing a composite material with negative refraction index is demonstrated. It is shown that a photonic structure which consists of two dielectric materials, with positive and negative dielectric permittivities, can support electromagnetic waves which exhibit the unusual electromagnetic property of left-handedness (or negative refraction index). These electromagnetic waves ...
