Dissolution rate of apatite powders in acidic fluoride solutions and the relationship to hydroxyapatite disk and bovine enamel behavior

چکیده
The dissolution kinetics of synthetic hydroxyapatite (HAP) and carbonate-containing HAP powders have been studied in fluoride-containing acetate buffer solutions partially saturated with respect to HAP (K,, = 10-‘15 to IO-“‘). The experimental results indicate that in the ease of HAP powders the dissolution rates become veqr slow when the K,,, values of the dissolution medium are larger than 10.. ‘If). For the carbonate-containing apatites. however, there is a significant dissolution in the region lo‘I’ 1 K ,+,r _ > lo-“” which is in the region of physiological and therapeutic significance. The present results with the HAP powder together with HAP pellet data show that the dissolution of HAP pellets in the region 10 _ ‘I4 > I(,,, > lo*19 rest&s from an extended transient period rising from sustained deposition of Fon the surface and at intermediate depths in the ‘lesion’. Similar effects have also been observed with bovine teeth dissolution in acidic Fsolutions.

It is well established that fluoride plays an important role in the prevention of dental caries. Fluoridation of drinking water has been a successful public health measure in reducing the prevalence of tooth decay.' Beneficial results have also ensued from incorporation of stannous fluoride into a dentifrice.2 Wellock and Brudevold3 and others4,5 have reported a reduction in carious surfaces, a...

Due to its biocompatibility, bioactivity and high durability properties, hydroxyapatite (HA) has a wide range of applications in medical cases such as bone defect treatment and bone tissue regeneration. Biological apatite as the most important integrity of the mineral part of hard tissues consists of tiny hydroxyapatite crystals in nanoregime. It seems that using the artificial hydroxyapatite...

The experimental results were quantitatively compared with the theory based on a physical model representing the reaction and with the experiments involving synthetic hydroxyapatite discs. The experimental initial rates self-consistently compared well with the theoretical predictions. An analysis of the experimental initial rate data yielded a reaction constant, ti. for the reaction representin...

High-speed atomic force microscopy (HS AFM) in 'contact' mode was used to image at video rate the surfaces of both calcium hydroxyapatite samples, often used as artificial dental enamel in such experiments, and polished actual bovine dental enamel in both neutral and acidic aqueous environments. The image in each frame of the video of the sample was a few micrometers square, and the high-speed ...

New approaches to extracting natural hydroxyl carbonate apatite from bio waste of bovine bones cortical femur have been developed. To extract pure and natural bio ceramics, three different treatments have been applied: 1-Calcination heat treatment at temperature of 700 , 2-alkaline hydrothermal at temperature of 275 and 3-Pressurized low polarity water at temperature of 250 . Raw bovine bone an...
