چکیده

This paper studies the effectiveness of different types of cohesion policies with respect to convergence of regions. A two-region agentbased macroeconomic model is used to analyze short-, mediumand long-term effects of policies improving human capital and fostering adoption of technologies in lagging regions. With fully integrated labor markets the human capital policy positively affects the economically stronger region but reduces production in the targeted weaker region. Subsidies for high technology investment in the weaker region have a positive local output effect and a negative effect on the neighboring region, thereby fostering convergence. When labor markets are not integrated both policies support convergence.

A Search Phillips Curve A generalised search model to understand the way economic policies shape the transmission of shocks

A generalised search model with matching on product, labour and financial markets is presented in order to analyse the impact of market frictions on the pass-through of shocks. The model includes an endogenous demand for money that arises from matching frictions on the financial market. Moreover, price posting on retail markets allows to establish a forward-looking Search Phillips Curve. The mo...

The Employment (and Output) of Nations: Theory and Policy Implications

I study the interactions of product and labor market institutions in a model characterized by a three-states representation of the labor market. Firms bargain with unions over wages and employment levels. This generates unemployment. Households take the associated unemployment risk as given in making their participation decisions. Unemployment inserts a wedge between labor supply (participation...
