Learning Plan Applicability through Active Mental Entities

چکیده
This paper aims at laying down the foundations of a new approach to learning in autonomous mobile robots. It is based on the assumption that robots can be provided with built-in action plans and with mechanisms to modify and improve such plans. This requires that robots are equipped with some form of highlevel reasoning capabilities. Therefore, the proposed learning technique is embedded in a novel distributed control architecture featuring an explicit model of robot’s cognitive activity. In particular, cognitive activity is obtained by the interaction of active mental entities, such as intentions, persuasions and expectations. Learning capabilities are implemented starting from the interaction of such mental entities. The proposal is illustrated through an example concerning a robot in charge of reaching a target in an unknown environment cluttered with obstacles.

One of the ways to reduce agency costs is to plan for the creation of effective decision-making information by designing appropriate comprehensive performance evaluation systems according to managers' learning process One of the important factors in the processing and classification of information for cognitive learning is mental models that are categorized in two dimensions of mental model co...
متن کاملDistributed Cognition through Active Mental Entities: an Argumentation-Based Approach1
This paper introduces the active mental entities approach to the design of intelligent autonomous agents. In this approach, mental attitudes are conceived as active computational entities and the overall mental activity of an agent results from their independent operation and interaction. In order to provide a formal support to this approach, we propose argumentation theory as a basis for the d...

This experiment was a modification of Paul N. Wilson’s 1999 study entitled “Active Exploration of a Virtual Environment Does Not Promote Orientation or Memory for Objects.” It was hoped that changing the immersion level from a standard desktop monitor to a more immersive CAVE environment would change the results of this experiment. All subjects explored a three-dimensional virtual environment i...
متن کاملApplication of Learning Theories in Clinical Education
Introduction: The purpose of education is learning. Several theories have been raised about learning, which have tried to explain how learning occurs. They help teachers to choose teaching methods, prepare learning environment and determine students' activities. Given the importance of learning theories in education, this study aimed to review application of learning theories in nursing educati...
متن کاملOn the Applicability of Oxford's Taxonomy of Learner Strategies to Translation Tasks
During the last three decades, especially 1980's, language learning specialists have been busy discovering the nature of language learning strategies, describing them, and formulating their relationships with other language learning factors. In line with these studies, the field of translation studies has undergone a complete revolution in terms of its perspective toward its research prioritie...
