چکیده

Methods Perianal swab, urine (from Foley’s catheter) and endotracheal catheter (ET) were collected from patients who were admitted to intensive care units of a 1000-bed hospital. Isolation of CR-AB and CR-PS was using EMB agar containing 12 ug/ml of either imipenem or meropenem. The MacConkey agar containing 1 ug/ml of cefotaxime was used for screening of ESBL-producing organisms. The MIC of these organisms was performed using THANF customised panel (Sensititre, UK).

Spread of multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii and Pseudomonas aeruginosa clones in patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia in an adult intensive care unit at a university hospital.

BACKGROUND In Brazil, ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) caused by carbapenem resistant Acinetobacter baumannii and Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates are associated with significant mortality, morbidity and costs. Studies on the clonal relatedness of these isolates could lay the foundation for effective infection prevention and control programs. OBJECTIVES We sought to study the epidemiologi...

Colonization pressure as a risk factor for colonization by multiresistant Acinetobacter spp and carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa in an intensive care unit

OBJECTIVE To determine factors associated with colonization by carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa and multiresistant Acinetobacter spp. METHODS Surveillance cultures were collected from patients admitted to the intensive care unit at admission, on the third day after admission and weekly until discharge. The outcome was colonization by these pathogens. Two interventions were implemen...

Multiple colonization with highly resistant bacteria: carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae, carbapenemase-producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa, carbapenemase-producing Acinetobacter baumannii, and glycopeptide-resistant Enterococcus faecium.

The dissemination of carbapenemase-producing bacteria worldwide is an important source of concern because carbapenemase producers are multidrug resistant (Nordmann and Poirel, 2014). National guidelines increasingly recommend a systematic screening of at least carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) and glycopeptideresistant enterococci (GRE) in patients admitted to hospitals who have ...

Antimicrobial Susceptibility among European Gram-Negative and Gram-Positive Isolates Collected as Part of the Tigecycline Evaluation and Surveillance Trial (2004-2014).

BACKGROUND European centers (n = 226) involved in the Tigecycline Evaluation and Surveillance Trial (TEST, 2004-2014) submitted data and bacterial isolates. METHODS Minimal inhibitory concentrations and susceptibility were determined using Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute methods and European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing breakpoints. RESULTS The rates of the ...

Metallo-beta-lactamase-producing clinical isolates of Acinetobacter species and Pseudomonas aeruginosa from intensive care unit patients of a tertiary care hospital.

Prompt detection of metallo-beta-lactamase (MBL) producing isolates is necessary to prevent their dissemination. Frequency of MBLs producing strains among multidrug resistant (MDR) Acinetobacter species and Pseudomonas aeruginosa was evaluated in critical care patients using imipenem-EDTA disk method. One hundred MDR Acinetobacter spp. and 42 Pseudomonas aeruginosa were checked for MBL producti...
